advice - my Catalytic sounds like garbage

my OEM cat on my 04 DC with 109k gave out and i bought the one the muffler shop said was legal and it has ruined my ride...it sound like a tin can rattling (not literally), no CEL, but is there any aftermarket that is cali smog legal or should I just buy a new/used OEM toyota - will that help?

my truck is so B.A. but the Cat is bumming me out hard.

Run without a cat... but since you live in Derpifornia I doubt that would fly.

 

make sure the head shield welds didn't break.

 

it doesn't sound broken, just cheap and tin-y!

 

Hit the cat with a rubber mallet see if the sound still there, that way you get a better idea whats making the sound
