What you wrote. I didn't know domestic cars are still sold with manual crank-down windows.

Just under $10k is what I was quoted. There's 'repairable' frame damage, cab damage, and the entire bed has to be replaced - apparently it cracked all the way through. Best part, 2-4 weeks before I get it back ... FFS

Latest update ... shop called me today and said the frame was bent at 45d angle and cracked when they tried to straighten it. It's now "unrepairable and will have to be replaced". We're looking at about 17.5k worth of damage, which does not nearly cover the value of my ride ...So, they're going to replace the entire bed, order a new frame and rebuild the vehicle from the ground up side-by-side but absolutely will not total the truck. If I'm lucky, I'll get it back in 6-8 weeks ...

FML ... and f#@% the guy that hit me!

    Dude, Fight that shit!!!

I was given the option of totaling it or repairing it. Mine was a 2011. They gave me $33k, I owed $25k. I'm in a 2012 now. I wasn't about to accept a truck that had been rebuilt by a shop and not a Toyota factory. I was told it would take 6-8 weeks just for the frame as Toyota does not just have them sitting around. I'm sure you love your truck just as much as anyone else on this site but there is no way I would allow this to happen. There can be too many issues later on down the road.

Say you want another shop to look at it.

    Push them to total it.

I was just in the same situation, frame was unable to be repaired, the mechanic asked me if I wanted him to push it to be totaled or if I wanted to fix it. I don't want a truck with a new frame. That shit will never be the same.

Try and tie in the whole idea of "diminished value" and see if their insurance will back down at that point...

    State Farm

I was on the phone with my claims adjuster last night for a long time pleading my case and they basically told me to FO ... stating it would be rebuilt to a new condition ... *right* ... I'll continue trying to push it but I'm not feeling good about this one ...

Weren't you rear-ended? State Farm should be fighting the other insurance company on this. I know my insurance only covers a rental car for 30 days; 6-8 weeks is well beyond that.
Keep fighting man! That is ridiculous. If State Farm won't help push to a total on this then I would drop them once this is all over.

Has the other drivers insurance accepted liability?

I live in California - so, of course the asshole doesn't have insurance or money. Also, because I'm a fuck'n idiot, I didn't have rental car on my policy. Figured the chances of me wrecking the truck were next to none and I could ride off someone else's insurance. Should really know better at my age and I will not make that mistake again.

Sue him for what? The man has no insurance, no money, his vehicle was completely totaled and my insurance will be coming after him to make up the difference for the Tocoma. In the end, all I'll get from him will be wasted time and perhaps the fillings out of his teeth, if I'm lucky ....

Damn man. I hate people sometimes. Had a similar incident last year with my wife's car. Chick was driving a new car and hit my wife. Her insurance wasn't valid anymore, so they wouldn't cover her. Needless to say our underinsured motorist kicked in but only for half of what the costs were.

It's a cruel lesson to be learned, I can feel your pain from here, I really hope it works out for you. I would still keep fighting to get it totaled.

New frame? Your truck is going to be fine. Think about it. No rust! Body shops are crazy amazing. I bet it comes back beautiful. I would rather have a new frame than a fixed one.
