If your truck has a flashing red light under the radio, next to the airbag lights, then yes, you have a transponder chip in your key's rubber head. I have cut one apart and seen it.

Okay I just went to check. Below the radio I have a red car shaped light with a "key" in it that blinks after I use the remote to unlock the car. When I lock it, it blinks also. My alarm is a separate light under the steering wheel and that is a solid red "dot" light.

Is the car shaped light the transponder light?

Yes the car shaped light is the transponder. If you pay attention the light goes out as soon as you put the key in the ignition.

Huh. Learn something new every day. Thanks to you both!

So if the stolen truck has a transponder, then the bad guy who makes the key on the run would have to program something to the truck, right? Because you can't just put a cut key in there and the thingy not communicating with the truck, right?

A lot of the stolen trucks in this area are either found in Oakland or Tracy area
