Anyone local good with a welder?

I'm hoping someone local in the area can help me out with this, I accidentally broke a bolt in my taco and it's been a real stubborn one to remove. It's not that it's 100% important it just pisses me off that the bolt is lodged in the hole and I can't remove it. I was thinking if someone is good with a welder they can weld a nut on there for me and I can finally remove it and retap the hole.

 

why dont you just drill out the broken bolt.

 

this, or try a reverse bit... I'm guessing your in concord but if not and your around sac i have a welder. I'm in folsom.

 

I already tried, the bastard bit broke off and I tried to remove that, anyways to make the story short I ended up drilling some more after i thought i removed the bit which broke off out of screw but i guess i didnt fully and the drill bits I'm using are going dull now. It's a mess, so idk what to do at this point really.

 

where is it?
I've now broken 3 steering knuckle bolts in my spindle and a welded nut made the job quick each time.

 

It's directly under the cab where the tube steps bolt up to. (I know I'm a jackass for fucking that up but in my defense the bolt was longer then stock size, 2 inches longer, and was entering ok at first) As long as the tube step is off its very accessible.

I dropped my steps 2 inches and they are so much better now. But I still want the full support from the passenger side and having one bolt hold onto the middle bracket supporting weight with only one bolt keeps me uneasy.

 

hmm this sounds pretty easy, put the nut on half way weld the end fully then use a wrench, i have a welder and i live about 15 mins way from concord. im not pro at welding by any means but i can put two metal piece together lol

 

Lol well the broken bolt is receded in about 2 to 3mm... So the key is keeping the weld very centered and just building up the weld gradually until you can weld the nut to the weld. The last thing I need to do is weld what used to be the hole fully shut. Haha. This just happened so the bolt is not rusted by any means, it's a grade 8 bolt for whatever it's worth.

 

i say get some better drill bit(viking, cobalt ect), drill it out. that be the easiest way

 

Just curious why you have a welder if you're not very good at it? Just starting out learning?

I ain't hating at all... I wish I knew how to weld, haha!

 

I need some bits that stay as sharp as a scalpel after I'm done with them if that the case because after tons of time spent drilling yesterday they didn't do crap to it. And what's worse is I have a lot of threads left to drill through.

 

not everyone knows how to weld really good, you dont need to be good at welding to have a welder..

viking bits are the strongest i know, we use them at B.A.M.F and they beat cobalt bits by miles. they are pricey but well worth the price, the trick to drilling metal is to go slow and steady and keep the area well lubed with drilling oil.

 

Any kind of lubrication, the key is to not let them overheat huh, I was using silicone lube to try to keep them cool.

How strong are they, also how strong are Milwaukee bits or are they best piece of shiiet?

 

you dont want Titanium high speed drill bit, but Milwaukee bits are really good, just get a cobalt bit. and i just spray it with wd 40 or pb blaster lube

 

He's not a pro at it but he does do a good job, good enough for him to work for a very popular vendor here who takes pride in his creations and is VERY picky.

 

I dulled out my Milwaukee bits on said broken bolt if that says anything. Care to elaborate on why not get the titanium high speed bit??

 

using high speed bit they wear out faster, number 1 killer to bits is heat, so low speed bits you can drill slower, so it stays cooler and stay sharp. drilling takes patient. just ask jerry at BAMF about bolt on slider lol
