Good Bay Area Painter for a Shell?

Pricing out places to paint a shell. One body shop wanted $450. Seems a bit steep. What's the going rate out there?

That seems about right. That's just for single stage, right?

$450.00 don't sound too high you get what you pay for when it comes to body work and paint. I wouldn't go to the cheapest place you find on this one.

And with this title "Good Bay Area Painter for a Shell?" you will get a lot more places that are $500.00+ to paint it.

Correcto. My dad owns a body shop, so I can ask him for a quote for you OP.

There's another solution, vinyl wrap. I think it's like 100-150 in vinyl, and the rest is negotiable since it's labor, but it runs around 300-400 for just the cap.

You could always learn to do it yourself.

However, for paint $400 is pretty normal. If you want it cheaper and have time, there's always sanding and prepping (masking or removing the weather stripping, windows, and mounting hardware, etc) the shell on your own first, then just bring the prepped shell to the painter and let them have at it.

If you're particular about it looking perfect, then the process is always

* Strip
* Bodywork/Prime
* Base coat
* (any pearl or mica on top of that)
* Clear coat

You are basically paying for their time, their space, and their energy. That said, the guys at Earl Scheib and Maaco know how to spray, they just suck at prep and their paint is super duper cheap.

If you prep and bring your own paint, you can get a better look for a lot less. You just lose out on things like guarantee that it'll look OK.
