What's UP NorCal TW HOMIES! Welcome to the official thread for the 1st Annual NorCal TW Xmas tree run.

WHAT: Wheeling trip to Mendocino National Forest to go harvest Xmas trees, wheel a bit, bs, drink hot chocolate (or whatever your drink of choice is)

    WHEN: Saturday Dec 6th.

WHERE: Mendocino National Forest, Upper Lake District. Also known as Middlecreek and Penny Pines to those that ride Moto up there.

DETAILS: A fun day trip for the whole fam. Head up to the MNF for some wheeling, some good ol fashioned bs, and some Clark Griswold inspired Xmas tree hunting! Xmas tree permits can be purchased at the Upper Lake Ranger district for $10. There's plenty of trees up there, some silver tip firs up top and overall it's just a good time to be had. Even better if there's some snow to mess around in. Officially this will be the 1st Annual, and I hope to continue to the tradition on!

From there we can caravan to Upper Lake, there's a good gas stop right before we head into the MNF. Once there we can meet at Middlecreek campground, which is basically at the bottom of the trail. If there's anyone who is coming in over hwy 20, or will already be in the area (camping and whatnot) 2nd meeting place is

    HEY!! UPDATE! IMPORTANT!!
In order to cut down a Xmas tree you will need a permit! I had thought we could buy them at the ranger station on the way in, but the office is only open M-F. You will need to print and download this form, or stop by a ranger station prior to dec. 6th.

Double update: if you haven't purchased a permit yet Hi-Way Grocery in Upper Lake sells them for the ranger district. They are open at 8am on Saturday morning.

I think in axe would be more rewarding.

Pre-empt her. If you get firsties on the plan then you have more leverage.

Unfortunately, in my attempt to ease her into it, I stated, quote: "Ok, we don't have to commit yet, just thought I'd throw it out there :)"

    Edit: I'm screwed huh?

Subbed! Great idea, the wife has been bugging me to get a tree since we have our son now. I think everyone's happy this way. Put me down as a yes, but I'll confirm with her tomorrow

Unconfirmed. I know there's been some cold and wet weather up there lately, but can't say for sure. I hope so! we can keep an eye on the weather, plus the ranger station usually has good up to date conditions. U gonna roll? here's a pic from last year.

I dunno man... You can push the "family" aspect here, my wife and daughter will be there, sounds like budman's bringing the fam, you can do this!!

If there's no snow then absolutely. It's not challenging off-roading, it's improved dirt road. If there's a fair amount of snow you may have a challenge. But we got plenty of rigs, I've got a winch!

    Right on! Added.

Phase 1 Complete! I told her we should start a tradition of cutting down a Xmas tree, like our own Griswald Family Xmas! She liked the idea.

Phase 2 will be implemented soon

    Now lets get some snow!

The wife said yes. Guess I should sharpen my old axe or buy a new one. or maybe both.
