ok i'll have to look, aparently they are at a store where they live so i am probably going to go the the cables with him and i'm sure they have one of those there.

even though toyota reccomends cables should i just go with the good ol' chains? my stepdad did some research and some people said that chains wouldn't clear the wheel wells.

Les Schwab has a deal where you can buy the tire cable style & if you don't use them by April 1st you can return them for a full refund. I did this earlier this year for a trip up to Oregon in a non 4-wheel drive vehicle. IIRC they were about $100.

The clearance issue was with the front wheels, not the rear. I've got chains for the rear but never had to use them (just required by law to carry them). Back when I bought mine, they didn't make cables large enough.

If it weren't for the money issue, I'd go with you. I took my daughter up to Sierra last winter and we did the $35 lesson, rental, and lift ticket deal to learn to snowboard (man, that was a steal!). It's like skate boarding, so it's real easy to pick up quickly. You just need someone to show you the basics, make a couple trips down the slopes, and jump to the harder stuff (although it may still be hard to keep up with the younger crowd). My daughter (13 now) has never even stood on a skateboard, so she struggled a lot. But I had a blast! I do x-country and snowshoe now a days as those are free, but snowboarding is way more fun. Maybe if I win the lottery...

35s huh? You sure? FJ starts out of the box with better clearance and angles than a taco.

When Jason and I installed the ome lift on our friends fj we put my 35's on just to see how they looked and it had so much more clearance than my Tacoma. It looked so awesome.

Went Tuesday to Kirkwood in the storm, it was an awesome powder day.

By the way someone before was mentioning chains and Ill add that the ones they carry at sport chalet are awesome. So easy to use. 75 bucks new. Chain and hoop style, with auto tighteners. AutoTrac or something like that. Have two sets and love them.

Chains? Just have 4x4 and good tires and you will be fine.
