TRD Sport Vs SR5

I am looking at getting a 2009 Tacoma V6 double cab long bed 4x4. I want the longer bed so I have narrowed it down to the standard SR5 or TRD Sport Package.
Which one would handle better off road and why ?

 

No real difference offroad if you are going to lift it, but otherwise the Sport package has the TRD Bilstein shocks. The main differences between the packages is that the Sport has the color matched trim (side mirrors, door handles, bumper, etc) and it has the TRD package seats, as compared to the chrome rear bumper, black door handles, black mirrors, etc. of the SR5. Both have the LSD in the rear.

 

I say you go with the Sport, you'll be glad you did in the end!

 

Yeah that's true, but he wants a long bed and the Offroad doesn't come in a long bed.

So do some trd sport trucks come with mechanical lsd and others with clutch type lsd, just curious, +1 for mechanical lsd cause I have truetrac in the rear of my first gen and it almost like a locker that u don't feel on the road

 

The TRD might be better stock for stock offroad, but the difference will be marginal. In 09, they went to an electronic brake based limited slip on the TRD and the SR5. So you have the same drivetrain, just slightly bigger tires and slightly better shocks than the TRD.

What I would do is buy the SR5, and put a few things on it that would come in well under the cost of the TRD package, and you would have a more capable truck.

OME 885 front springs with OME struts
OME dakar springs and shocks in rear
ARB air locker in rear
(optional) skidplates and/or sliders

there you have it, a more unique and capable truck, for less than the TRD package.
