On Board Air or Winch?

So I'm trying to decide what my next mod will be.... OBA setup or a winch.

I'm kinda leaning more toward the OBA because sooner or later I'll pick up an ARB locker for the rear. I'm kinda torn because a winch will always come in handy too.

I'd go with OBA, then save up for a winch later on.

 

If I were you, and knowing what I no now, I would bypass both and get a CO2 setup - you can air up very fast. You can pick up a tank for $40-130, a regulator for $50-150 (AirSorce) and a hose and chuck. It will also require you to refill the tanks from time-to-time. Aside from that you will be back on the road in 5 minutes!!!

I vote for OBA, that way you are only small mod away from a train horn. A winch + new bumper is a MUCH larger expense than OBA.

 

And then you would just run the locker off of a CO2 setup too?

 

No I don't think that is possible, someone correct me if I'm wrong. The CO2 makes it quicker to air up tires, and that's the extent of it IIRC.

Not a bad idea. I do like the idea of a compressor too. I have the hi-volume ARB for my locker and if I was in a real pinch, I could air up using the ARB if I ran out of CO2.

Also - probably the best way to drive an impact tool off road as well. Try to do that with the illustrated set up.

All this talk of CO2 made me order a 10 lb tank to go next to my 20 lb tank so that I can always make sure I have one with juice in the garage. I hate this site!!

That's where I learned about it!!!! the only thing that you may want to do differntly is the hose - I don't think the temperature of the CO2 screaming through the regulator and line will last as long - it may make the hose brittle (higher the velocity - lower the pressure - lower the temperature).

 

Why not get a cheap air pump and a good winch, then save for oba and locker? It may take longer to air up, but you can still get un-stuck.

 

i think OBA system is the next mod i'll do to my truck. i just got my smittybuilt XRC 8000 from ups today and hopefully tim will be shipping my bumper this week from relentless fab. so i'll be watchin this thread to see which direction you go. CO2 or air. i think i like the way siRMarlon did his and i def. like the price tag!

I agree, but you can't take oba out and put it in your wife's vehicle.

 

My point is, leave the small one in her car for emergencies with a plug kit. You can't be in two places at once, right?
