Be safe when you winch.

This video (found by luck) shows why you should always be very careful when winching.

Basics: 1-Use a heavy duty snatch block (always)
2-Open your hood (just in case, see video)
3-Use a dampening blanket on tow line
4-Do not allow morons to help you.
5-Ensure your winch is suitable for the task at hand.

yea that guy got lucky, you should never use a hook on a winch. always a shackle. or if a hook, make sure it has a safety latch on it..
and never ever drink and use a vehicle in any way..

 

You realize that in that video they were using the winch to snatch? So here goes my tip, don't use a winch to snatch somebody out.

 

I've seen this happen through a back window. I was watching a bunch of fords try and pull each other out after getting stuck so I pulled up and just watched! No blanket on either side and the hook went through the stuck guys rear window!

 

Don't wheel with idiots (more then 1/2 of whom had a Bud Light in hand...)
Use the right parts of the right jobs.
