Trail Gear Sliders vrs Everyone else!

My TG bumpers are solid and have taken abuse without problems. I probably would have went with TG sliders if they sold them with kickouts. All Pro and heavy duty should not be in the same sentence imo.

 

^I don't think you're a jerk and don't begrudge you for buying TG products. For me, the bottom line is that I personally know many of the Toytec staff. I know the background of some of their designs that were directly copied by TG within the last 12 months. Like you, I don't want to stir up a big debate about it, but I hate to see stuff like that happen.

On the other hand, I agree with your point on sliders. If I were to design my own sliders for my rig... they'd look almost exactly like the CBI set that is on there now. Like you, I'd rather design and build my own stuff, but when you can get the same thing (used in this case) for cheaper... Another example, I've had plans to build a rear bumper/swing out on a white board for quite a while now. It just so happens that, though I thought it up entirely in my head, it looks pretty similar to the love child of your bumper and an all-pro. Not identical, but similar. Why? The same interfaces, the same purpose, the same materials available will net you a very similar design... just like you said

I understand that there is a fine line and I'm not trying to stir up a storm here. I'm just making my decisions based on what I see and what my conscience dictates.

 

my trail geat pre welded sliders arrived today for my 2004 dc taco and when I went to mock em up the front leg was like .5 inch shorter than the other three, it was like this on both sides and is going to make it a pain to install since I will now have to weld in some sort of spacer. what gives? has this happened to any of you ?

 

Bummer. Didn't happen to me but I didn't get the pre welded ones. I just cut and welded the legs myself

 

What tires are those?

 

Which ones? The ones on the Land Cruiser are BFG ATs. The other ones are BFG KM2s

 

that's the route I wish I would have went. but their on now and are a very solid slider. very happy with the product.

 

How'd you fix the gap? If it were me I'd have cut the leg in half and and welded a sleeve inside of it to make it longer to get the plate to weld correctly on the frame.

 

that's a great idea and I never thought of it, but I ended up cutting a square piece of steel 1/2 inch thick to the same dimensions of the slider frame plate and welding that as a spacer to the slider frame plate. I did the same thing on both sides. the only concern I have now is when I measure the gap between the front of the slider and the pinch weld I get a .25 difference when comparing both sliders. oh well though their is nothing I can do to fix it now beside cut and start over. im sure its just the slight variation of tolerances during the machining process. ill live with it, its un noticeable unless you brake out a tape measure
