Roto Pax ......

Anybody have them or ever use them?
are they worth it?
what do you use them for ie. gas, water, storage, first aid?
Are there other similar containers or mounts that are better or easier to use?

I am only interested in using them in the bed of my truck not on an ATV or UTV side by side.

 

I have a set of Rotopax on my truck, I have a total of 8 of them, 2 are for water, 2 are for gas and 4 are storage( 3 are for my recovery gear and 1 is a first aid kit), I have them mounted to the sides of my bed rack using there locking mounts on a steel plate that was welded to the rack. sick build man i do have questions,
where did you mount the hi-lift? shovel, axe? second battery?
what is that on the rear bed rail next to the CB antenna?
whats the advantage of a HAM radio over CB?

 

The Hi-Lift is mounted in the bed using the same design as the 4Trac mounts, but I had my own built that are mounted to the bed rack, as I did not want to drill into the bed. The shovel and axe are mounted simular to the Hi-Lift jack on the opposite side. If you want I can email you some larger pics showing these. The second battery is mounted in the stock location using the adapter from Columbia Overland. The bed rail behind the cab has two antennas, one is for the CB radio and the other is for the HAM radio.

HAM radio requires a license to transmit on where as CB does not, but the advantage is the HAM is way more versitle and also has much longer range. I chose to have both installed as CB is fairly inexpensive to get a decent rig and gives be the flexibility to use both and not everyone wants or has HAM radio in there truck.

This makes me think I should goto a gallery type site as I have some 250 pics of the build, I just posted a few.

 

i didnt know they made a dual battery tray i have looked before, and looking at their site just now i cant find it.

who is hosting your website? did you build it yourself?

 

I built and host my site myself, they dont have the battery tray listed by you can call and order a kit for the second gen. I am working on adding way more pics and over hauling my site, so later today I will have 100s of pics showing the build.

do you like the rotopax or have you not had them long enough to really tell, i just feel like the 2 gallons for the gas is a little to little. its hard to tell the actual size of them since there are no dealers around here

 

I have had them for a month or two now, I have used them to add gas to the truck on a camping trip and it is about a 1/4 tank that my 2-2gallon containers give you. my only sorta complaint about them is that the company they get to make the locking keys will not make a set that are keyed alike so I had a key ring that is organized using a belt clip and the key for the hi-lift to know which key works on which lock.

Update: I have updated my website and there are way more pics, including pics of the Rotopax and how they are mounted and what is stored in them.

They're sturdy and will be worth every penny of yours. Unlike the older Kolpin fuel pack, the Roto Pax have more thread on the neck to prevent leaks.

 

I have used the plate mounted to the track system in the back of my Tacoma and am very happy. As can be seen from the crappy iPhone pics, I have them mounted on either side of the bed, four of the two gallon packs. They mount securely and get awesome reviews!! They are a bit pricey but I really like the mounting system and quality of the product. Safe wheeling!!

Yes, I use Gas, water and have the first aid kit version, love them, very reliable.

 

For you guys using these with caps on , do you get any gas odour ?

 

No, I usually have 4 gas, 2x water and a first aid in the bed for when we go gold prospecting, I have never had a leak or gasoline fumes/odors in 26 outtings.

 

daystar is coming up with something similar and IIRC its considerable cheaper!
