You can go alot of places but not all.
That alone gets you into and out of more places. I take my 2wd PreTaco wood cutting and have only got stuck twice (6' come along and some steel cables got me out). Several times guys in 4x4s told me "you shouldn't have that in here". I tell them no problem I'll get it back out one way or another. 6' come along and some steel cables or if all else fails and I haven't had to do this yet I can call the wife and she'll bring the 4x4. A winch would help but keep in mind you need some where to attach the other end. I also carry several 2' steel spikes in case I can't reach a tree but haven't used them yet.

Reckless Taco did a trail run up here with 7 other 4x4 Tacos and had no problems he even went some places thoese running stock 4x4s wouldn't go.

Hey Matt when are you comming back up here to play? Let me know if your going to be almost in the neighborhood and we can schedual another run while you're around. Took the wife on HLT three weeks later with Glenn (Sierra4x4 white TX/Pro) and it was a lot wilder. She had a blast! The wife said we should get a 3" lift like Glenn did so we did. I got a 3" lift off of sierrahsky so I'll be joining you in the ruts next time.

dont mean to jack the thread, but is there a downside to keeping the truck in 4lo? I went on this 4 hour trail and it was so rough i kept it in 4lo 70% of the time.

thank you, so the engine RPM is more than double what it would be in high range (2.57X to be exact).

You don't really want to go over 10mph or so in 4lo but other than that it is fine.

I go into 4 lo when I air down, and don't take it out until it's time to air up again.

It's a low _range_ with _all_ your gears available to you. So if I'm running 30mph in 4th, I'm probably running about the same RPM and MPGs as some guy in 4hi keeping it in second.

Im actually not sure... I've just always heard not to go really fast in 4lo.

Maybe because some of the shafts in the t-case are spinning ridiculously fast due to the gear reduction but again, just a random guess. I haven't looked into exactly how the t-case works.

A 2wd locked pre runner can go almost as many places as a 4wd can. My good friend JD Keller is a perfect example. It has a lot to do with the driver as well. You can have the most hooked up truck in the world and if the driver can't drive it, what's the point? I've seen some guys that have bone stock trucks but they can drive.

the gears would not be spinning faster but in fact slower. the engine is doing more rpm's than your driveline in 4lo and basically any gear except 5 hi and higher

I would say (now that i've gone offroad for the first time ever) bring some gear, possibly some backup, and DO NOT slow down in soft sand...

As you can see, being unprepared, have almost no offroading skill with a truck, and only having 2WD with LSD, and some sheer stupidity, you can get stuck.

In my case, we were driving around in mud and all kinds of junk here in the Bonne Carre Spillway and i made it through just fine by myself. Soft sand crept up and got me. Other than that, I'm sure a truck with a rear locker is more capable than mine, but its crazy fun!
