Hitch Pin Rating?

So I want to get a snatch strap for winter. Looking on YouTube, several vids show the puller attaching a snatch strap to the using only a hitchpin through the eye in the strap.

So, is this advised? I don't plan on pulling people out regularly, and I'd rather not buy a square receiver hitch with shackle if it's just as easy to use a crosspin. If I can get by on a crosspin, is there a heavy-duty that is recommended?

 

Well technically if you're yanking someone out on the ball, all the pressure is going to be on the pin, right?

 

Sorry, I don't follow completely - "on the ball"? If you mean the ball hitch, I thought that was a big no-no. I guess I'm asking if one of these is needed:

Or if I can just use a crosspin to secure the snatch strap? And if so, is there a good crosspin to buy? Like a heavy-duty one?

I've tugged on the ball hitch more times than I could ever count.

 

You can make a reciever shackle setup easy..

just buy some 2" stock and take a drill press through it for the pin and for a shackle.
