ALSD can do what you can't, which is brake one wheel independent of the other.

In fact, TRAC does this on all four, but does not work in 4lo out of the box, but that's why there's the yellow wire mod.

If you're going to go to the trouble of swapping a diff for off roading purposes, tho, go selectable locker.

Locking differential is better off road.

Errmmm...IDK if there is a thread. This is a technique I learned driving up north.

You have a 4L V6 stick truck...so you have the pull handle e-brake. That is what I use but you can use the pedal as well.

When you are on an obstacle and you start to lift a tire and your spotter tells you that you are spinning just that one. Pull the ebrake- SLOWLY and be ready to release it and/or put both hands back on the wheel-until that up wheel locks or slows down. You SHOULD feel the truck kick/buck as the low tire gets some drive. Your spotter may also see it spin.

I was stuck with my right rear tire up, pumpkin on the ground, going over a ledge, downhill in 4LO. The front tires were pulling and you could see what the pumpkin plowed up a pie in front of it-Cleaned that out and a couple tugs on the ebrake and that was enuf grip to push the truck over the ledge.

Anyone else feel free to add to this...I am by no means an expert and there may be better ways to explain this.

Gets me through stuff like this. I still want lockers front and rear. Mostly the front locker, to help the front wheels climb up vertical rock faces.

Without turning this into a traction control thread, I felt the need to clarify.

2006-2008 4wd OR's equiped with the TRAC option have TRAC in 4lo. Stock, without modification.

Agreed. I want the same, but I was reading something about ill effects having the front locked and a limited slip in the back. I'd have to look it up again myself, but from what I read, it wasn't advised.

Ok. Your sig says Detroit so I am assuming you have Truetrac. If thats true, what you see is exactly what truetrac will do. There is no preload there so it will simply not work with one wheel in the air.

I have a 2006 4X4 SR5 doublecab... I just crawled under it a minute ago and there is a sticker on the rear diff that says "only LSD oil"...

    I'm psyched!:D

I have not had the truck for very long (new member,) but I have had it on some pretty rough trails and it performed well. I thought maybe it had a limited slip but I wasn't 100% sure till now...

    completely stock
if your buddy was in 4lo without the yellow wire mod he was open/open

My truck did some amazing shit with just the TRAC system. I walked around a lot of Mech. LSD trucks.

Trac is E LSD on front and rear.

so my alsd (trac) is actually better than a mechanical lsd? because if I have a wheel in the air, it will still drive the wheel on the ground.

Yes, it also works on all 4 wheels. In normal situations where a mech. lsd is able to work though, it will transfer more power than a-lsd

Yeah but the e-LSD (autoLSD) doesn't work in 4lo. It's open diffs. But a mechanical LSD works in all settings .. 2, 4hi, and 4lo.

x2 gazillion billion.. the "poor mans locker" really does work well

2 of my buddies (J4RR, and dtrujillo63)with the Sport model and while using the "poor mans locker" have made up some pretty intense trails and they made it look easy..even out performing a FJC that was always with us that was trying to get up the same stuff while having ATRAC engaged.. go figure. eventualy one of the Sport owners (dtrujillo63) wised up and upgraded to the ARB lockers front and rear, and our FJC buddy eventually learned that ATRAC doesnt live up to it's hype on the more extreme trails haha.

Not 100% true. It depends what year and package you have on your truck.

05-08 (Off Road; TRAC equipped) - TRAC works in 4Lo
09-12 (Off Road) - ATRAC works in 4Lo

So, with the right truck, e-lsd works in all modes just like the mechanical :)
