You know I'll be there as always David! I'm very disappointed though there's only 140 entries signed up so far.. There are usually about 350+ at score events... I hope everyone is just waiting till its closer to the race to sign up.

Are you saying there is a conflict with the dates? I just checked, and yah,it is only 2 weeks after the 250... bummer to split racers up... Those going for points will need to choose, unless they are big buck racers who can do two desert races in one month!

Here is the Mint 400 details: The 2012 Mint 400 takes place over the March 23-25 Weekend. Festivities, The Miss Mint Competition and Contingency take place in Las Vegas on Freemont Street. The race itself takes place just outside Las Vegas in Jean Nv.

Yeah, there is a thread on Race deZert of who is racing what. Common response is that San Felipe is tore up and everyone is excited that BITD now has the Mint. With the dates being so close, and the logistical expense difference, like you said, only the heavily sponsored and wealthy are doing both.

Back when I was with a race team, San Felipe was one of my favorites. Too bad.

    Going whale watching, are you?

    1) Get your Mexican auto insurance online at www.BajaBound.com
    2) Get your pesos at Costco in Chula Vista if you can.
    3) Get you tourist cards at the INM office just across the border (7 days or less is free, up to 180 days is about 290 pesos).
    4) Top your tank at the EL ROSARIO Pemex (225 miles/ 5 hrs. from Tijuana).
    5) There is some highway construction near Santo Tomas (widening Mex. 1) and Villa Jesus Maria (5 miles of dirt).
    6) Don't drive at night (range cattle, beautiful scenery missed).
    7) In El Rosario, The Baja Cactus Motel (next to the Pemex) is awesome if you get one of the newer rooms. Otherwise, at the far end of town (2+ miles away) is the new Tourist Motel, very nice, about $20-25! Eat across the hwy. from Turista AT 'Baja's Best Bed & Breakfast' restaurant and bar. Breakfast or dinner. Also great is Tacos Mision in El Rosario for super burritos or stuffed baked potatoes (Hugo Lopez is an artist and see his Baja paintings there)... On the left about 1.5 miles from the Pemex.
The next motel/hotel choices are in Cataviña, 76 miles/ 1.5 hours away... Hotel Mision Cataviña (formerly Desert Inn/ La Pinta/ El Presidente) about $80 dollars or the motel on the other side and a bit north... not a lot of good reports, however... Camping most anywhere is another option!

You can arrange your whale watching at the lagoon... no need to use the tour service at the Guerrero Negro motels. You can find a lot more and photos by searching on www.BajaNomad.com forums.

Have fun, take pictures, and show us here!

I too am a frequent race-dezert poster and as far as Ive seen on the threads there everyone's excited for the new track at San Felipe but yes many are having a tough time having to choose... Not sure why bitd decided to do it in the same month but those who want to race a real point to point race will be at baja and those who want to be in a short course race multiple times will be at the mint.

. Im excited for the new San Felipe course as shown here! Plus it's one of my favorite places to ride!
