Seems like a decent idea for some uses but having worked with some high pressure irrigation systems for some big industrial and commercial campuses you could probably build something from fairly cheap from schedule 80 pipe and fittings from home depot and it would work just as well. May not be quite as durable as a aluminum welded version but definitely cheaper. I may play around with the idea.

I had the same line of thinking about a DIY version of this. The website even shows the version history they went through to get to the one they have. Maybe it will help in planning one out, learn from some of the things they did.

    http://www.roadshower.com/history.html

I have to imagine that the aluminium has better heat transfer than schedule 80 pipe. Might be some other ideas that they didn't do that might work better. For anyone going out for more than a few days, having the ability to take a quick rinse off would be a nice thing. I wonder about a cheap heating element with a quick disconnect, plug it in only when you need the extra help.

You know how much 4'' sec 80 pipe weights?? haha use it up in the oil fields in AK..its like over 1/4'' thick..haha be stupid for just a water tank for a shower.

and stupid for a roll bar even ;) just too damn heavy.

I am thinking schedule 80 PVC. You could probably get away with schedule 40 even. Just need enough to handle the pressure you want.

And yeah the heat transfer would e better on metal but a quick cup with the jet boil and dump it in to mix with the semi warm water and you would be set.

Whew. Spent the morning reading this thread. For my own reference, I made it page 100.

Some really great rigs in this thread, and plenty of great solutions to common problems. Thanks!

I live in my truck. The objective is to prep it for long overland hauls. I'm maybe halfway done with the prep, another year, and I should be mostly done with the whole project.

This is my plan, a pair of deep cells hooked up to solar panels on the roof.

You've confused the rig with the person.

Thanks very much for that post!:)

    Ditto.

That's what I use. My son has the single burner (duel fuel, like mine), and it's also very cool.

Nicely done! I especially like the convertible table. I just picked up a small gym bag for use as a mess kit. I was thinking I'd build a small wooden rack inside of it to separate some of the larger bits.

Breaking something out in the middle of nowhere isn't my idea of fun. I'll take the easy route every time.

That is VERY interesting. Can't use it as lever to move the truck sideways off of a rock, or use it as a handwinch, though.

Not as green or economical as a shower.

Yes, you can always buy those solar showers ( I like them) but something like this would be much more durable and easy to mount and not worry about it getting a hole.

Bro, do you even expedition? This isn't the Army where whore baths with baby wipes are the norm. This is hot shower while knocking one out to your mobile hot spot fueled pr0n on the laptop followed by a cup of french pressed starbucks while smoking a cuban expedition camping man. :p

I like your style.... But mine is just knocking one out into a baby wipe while staring at my truck.... specifically my beards reflection in my truck....
