Alex, is that the cabellas camp kitchen? i've used some other brands, but never the cabellas. one of those things where it's hard to differentiate between products without firsthand experience or talking to someone who has one.

 

Yea, Cabelas Deluxe Camp Kitchen, Folds up nicely without too much effort, setups in minutes. Kinda heavy though, about 40lbs. But for base camp situations it's great. People usually love it after seeing and using it. Matter of fact I think Jerry ( BAMF ) is going to get one too as he saw how useful it was.

 

40 lbs and compact is a lot better than the 3x8 foot table i toss in my trailer for wheeling trips now.

The only issue i've experienced with the version i've used was that the center table wasn't quite large enough to comfortably use some of the camping stoves we tried out on it. it was plenty wide, just not deep enough. you tried any stoves on yours?

 

I use a full size single burner from coleman, I use it on the side table, and it fits that and the propane bottle without issue. The center table is fairly large and I believe will fit any dual burner without much issue.

 

Gracias. I'll have to look into the cabellas table a little more. i've typically been running a dual burner on the center section, with a full sized propane tank directly under that.

My modest rig is pretty purpose built for surf trips to Baja California, Mexico. DCLB was crucial and I usually have at least 1 other occupant, and my dog as companions and I sleep in the bed on the platform, boards underneath. The OME lift and 33" tires make an amazing difference when crawling through the desert, or driving on the worst washboarded and rutted roads you've ever encountered. I have a Hi-Lift, shovel, and ax secured in the bed to self-extract. Having a full size 33" spare is crucial as well. Being confident in your equipment when you're hundreds of miles from help, and in a 3rd world country means everything. The wallet can't get filled fast enough for everything I want to do!

Next steps are:

Underbody armor and skids
On-board air
ARB awning
Off-road and camping lighting, likely LED bar and pods

 

^^ Cool setup, ARB Awning is always cool, I ended up getting the mosquito room too, makes it pretty safe at night from bug bites.

Another main goal of mine is to be as incognito as possible. Trucks with boards stacked on the roof, rooftop tents, recovery gear bolted to roof racks, and trailers full of fun gear are all targets that would make me nervous leaving my truck parked on the beach for hours on end. A dusty, stock-looking truck flies under the radar, especially through nasty military checkpoints!

 

Speaking of camp kitchens - I have (and love) the Camp Chef camp kitchen - the front unzips to expose four pouches, one that can be used to store cold things in ice, and the legs extend. I looked at several and settled on this one. I got it at Cabela's and it has worked well!! And also LOVE the ARB awning -- just got it out of the shop and can't wait to get back out -- next three weekends will be out...

Haha yeah usually I only go places where I take my truck on trails so I don't leave it behind, and everything has to come with. I was worried my first time going through an on base checkpoint, but I got my truck reg'd and I usually don't get much drama about it. ( I get asked more questions about my gear & where I go than anything lol )

Thanks! That trailer setup is nice! A buddy of mine brought his up, although it was much more simple, had a RTT mounted on top and used the middle for storage. Was nice not to have to carry everything on the truck itself.

Anyone ever use their RTT in the snow?

 

Yeah, why? This is SixstringSteve's rig in Moab in the snow.

 

I'll be using mine all winter.

 

Probably wondering about the weight on snow on top. Which I'm actually curious about, while we're talking about it. I don't have an interest in a RTT, but I'm curious none the less.
