i'm sort of a member of tread lightly...and i try to practice it whenever possible on land other than my own

I'm a paying member of HXC and at the time I joined part of my membership dues went to TL

I'm in line for a semi-promotion at work along with a couple other things and once i'm back to being stable i'll begin contributing again

tread lightly is really a mind set . its just like being Kind to the land.
besides treading lightly is so much more important than paying a few bucks. I mean its nice to contribute and there some neat benifits but getting the message out there by word and example is the most important thing. And I salute you for doing so

I'd bet you a TLCA membership they will still let you hang out with them untill you can get your dues payed up. Most of them have wide open fun runs when even jeepers can roll.

I became a tread lightly trainer the first part of this month. I should get my accredidation packet sometime pretty soon.

Udated info

I get a real cool new merit badge for my boy scout uniform.

No really,
Surf:

here is a webpage that does a pretty good job of summing it up. (Please be aware I can not endorse in any way or do I know anything about the company which hosts the website on which this page resides)

UPDATE: I do know Tom Severin president of Badlands ORA. he was our Tread Lightly Master Trainer. I am otherwise unfamiliar with his Off Road Training Company other than have given it a somewhat more than cursory glance. Beside that fact & given His position as a Tread Lightly Master Trainer and as a I4WDTA certificate holder , I would suggest Badlands ORA bears serious looking into for your OffRoad training needs.

http://www.4x4training.com/TrainingClinics/Tread.html

or read :

Those who complete the Trainer course are equipped to:
  • Identify possible environmental and social impacts resulting from irresponsible recreation on land and water
  • Be able to describe the five Tread Lightly! minimum impact principles and how they can be applied to motorized recreation. (ATVs, 4WD, Dirt Bikes, water recreation, Snowmobiling), mechanized recreation (mountain bikes), camping, horseback riding and hunting.
  • Understand and demonstrate and teach Tread Lightly! minimum impact principles.
  • Lead a discussion on outdoor ethics and help others explore their own personal outdoor ethic
  • Membership in the Tread Lightly! organization.
  • Certificate of training completion.
  • Expertise in Tread Lightly! ethics and ways to minimize outdoor impacts when recreating.
  • 10% discount on all Tread lightly! materials.
  • Resources and information to assist in presentations.
  • Use of the Tread Lightly! display upon request.
  • Updates through a semi-annual newsletter, emails and website.

this should be a public poll so we can kick the shit out of the people who say "tread lightly is for pussies"

on our meet there was a chic in a 1st gen who was nothing short of a tool, she was nice but not very polite on the trail

she told us before we left that she "would not help pull ANYONE out if they got stuck"

then on the trail she was extremely unsafe positioning herself directly in the middle of our group and drove 10 mph slower than the rest of the group dividing us into two seperate groups and she would stop and take pictures every mile or so holding up the second group even more.

the final thing that pissed me off was when we hit this huge mud hole where two of the 2WDs got stuck she wanted them to drive up on the side of a hill that was never driven on and a lush green desert area. Myself and the lone FJ driver told her to fuck off and "tread lightly". Needless to say she will not be invited to wheel with us again

I'm trying to find where I can fit in with local clubs, so I was a guest last night at Cascade Cruisers (a TLCA Chapter)
