The hurricane last month really did a number on the route for the 1000 in Baja Sur (La Purisima to Loreto to Lopez Mateos section).

Crews are finding new routes or using dozers to fill in the washouts... Even 'off road' racers need some kind of road!

Damn, I'll be down there the week after! I tried to match it up, but i couldn't pull it. Was there in '08. So much fun! I'll be back for sure. Going to be doing my own version of the Baja 1000. SF to Bahia Concepcion and back. Trying to drive on dirt as much as possible. (in mexico that is)

Because of the damage done by Hurricane Paul, the Baja 1000 will be running the highway into Loreto from the La Purisima junction (around Mile 800).

In the few places where the race is on the highway, there is a speed limit of 60 mph for the racers, and SCORE has GPS tracking for all. Anyone exceeding 60 mpg will penalized.
