Hey guys, I think some of you already know about the 42 USFS trails that were closed in California last year. The Forest Service got sued over the closures, and the supervisor is re-evaluating the topic. They are asking for people to fill out a comment saying what your opinion is about the trails. They want to reopen the trails. Please fill out a form! One of the trails is one of my favorites! If you havent heard about the closures and want more info here is the link: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/eldorado/home/?cid=STELPRDB5362046 It also includes the link for the comments. Thanks guys and please send a comment!

Sent, I am not familiar with these trails, but a few years back a similar thing happened in Montana with about 71 trail closures. OHV clubs and users rallied together and sued the FS and got the plan turned back around, it is possible. Wishing you all the best of luck! Greenies are all pushing hard to take our rights to public land motorized recreation away, even if we are good and maintain trails they still are going to do it.

It's these fanatical extreme environmentalist groups that are behind all these closures imo.
It's the reason we have expensive gas here in CA as well.

Yeah i dont know about other areas, but in my area the trails were closed because of meadows. Apparently if a trail went through a meadow, it was disturbing the enviroment...

For the eco-Nazis, everyone and everything except themselves is destroying the environment somehow. Most ignorant group of activists I have ever seen, sometime I hope they figure out advanced space travel so we can send these whining morons to another planet lightyears from here.

    Yeah that^^^^
I was recently in Death Valley and found what looked like a paper towel with mustard stains. It was in an area that was fairly well traveled considering the remote location. Pretty sad. I passed it on the way to take some photos but on the way out I had to remove it.

UPDATE: The draft supplemental environmental impact statement was released last month, and public comment is still being accepted.

    http://www.fs.fed.us/nepa/fs-usda-pop.php?project=40309

Basically, they propose to reopen most of the trails - some of which with repairs and mitigation.

My suggestion is that you write to the forest service politely supporting their proposed decision to reopen most of the trails, and pointing out that various clubs in the off-roading community stand ready and able to "adopt a trail" and help out on any necessary repairs and mitigation.

The forest service is actually trying to go with the proposed alternative #3 which will result in (possibly temporary) closure of many of the trails including Barrett, Strawberry and Deer Valley. These trails will be closed entirely until they can be repaired, even if the section in question is very small.

Repairing the trails requires NEPA process and will likely be a lengthy and costly process if it ever even happens.

On top of that, the current district supervisor is retiring of course so we get to start all over with a new person.

I'm so glad our tax dollars are supporting this!

Please submit comments supporting the original proposed action and against the alternative. You can find more info here: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/eldorado/home/?cid=STELPRDB5362046
