I have the same answer here as I have had in the other threads. I, personally, can't stand driving an auto and will drive a manual as long as they are available. That being said, I can understand arguments of those who prefer them. As far as capability goes, there isn't a transmission type that is more capable than another. It all comes down to the driver.

OP: If you like driving the 6 speed, get it and don't worry.

    Just my 2 cents

My 2nd Gen Tacoma is the first truck I have ever had with an automatic, and I gotta say I love it.

im a manual guy. all my vehicles are stick and about 99% of the vehicles ive ever owned have be stick, kinda a requirement for me. I've been offroading since before I had a license. I feel I have a better feel of the truck and surroundings. yeah there might be a stall out on some tricky shit here and there but its just more comfortable for me.

    its personal preference.

You can mod the auto and have more options available in comparison to the manual . Low stall converters for towing , high stall converters for racing , shift kits , improved tranny coolers and computer control upgrades to enhance fuel economy or correct OEM design flaws .
With a manual gearbox , the only option you really have is installing a beefy clutch or an improved slave cylinder . You still have offshore Toyo Bearings

One of the biggest advantages of the Manual trans is the ability to roll start the truck if your alternator or starter goes dead.

For me it comes down to the daily commute.
I love manuals, and have always had them. My 99 Taco was a stick, and it was great...except for my daily commute. 11 stoplights, one way, in less than two miles. So I went with the Auto for my new-to-me 2010, and so far it's great. Call me lazy if you want (I probably am), but it's so much easier getting to and from work in traffic with a slushbox. I'm sure I'll miss having the stick for when I go offroading or snowy-parking-lot drifting, but I do that a LOT less often than I drive to work. So for me, the automatic was a good choice.
Besides, I still use a clutch on the bike when I take that in (which is every day it isn't raining from April to November)

So I'd say look at how you use it, and decide from there.

And you're British, so now YOU make more sense. My dad turns 55 this year. He has owned an INSANE number of vehicles. He can count on one hand how may autos he's owned, he'll tell you that he hated every one of them, that a stick will ALWAYS give you more control, and that he will be drivin a stick till his left leg fails, or they take his license.

You don't really NEED to mod a manual. You MAY NEED to mod an auto to get it to do what you want. If you know when to dump the clutch, and with how much throttle, you can out-do any aftermarket stall converter. You won't need to have a trannie cooler, cause it's not an auto with a slipping torque converter; it's not gonna put off heat unless you don't know how to drive. I can tow with my Taco, AND I can drag it when I want. BTW, I always dump the clutch at atleast 1750rpm when towing; otherwise, you'll be really slow off-the-line cause of the narrow, high-end power-band of the 2-RZ and 3-RZ engines I run. I don't NEED options. I need the reliability of a trannie that runs cool and does what I tell it. Unless you put on a valve body, and a manual-locking torque converter, you can't come close with an auto.

    Too few to list.
You just did and I too have had both auto and manual and prefer the auto on this truck. I only like manual in cable TB's.

I enjoy driving a manual more, so I got a manual, get what you like.

    To each their own.
