Holy Cross Trail, Colorado

Part II of our weekend adventure brought us over to the Holy Cross trail between Red Cliff and Leadville, CO.

Part I can be found here. Weston Pass over to Slide Lake.

Met up with lotsoftoys, cshade, CoTacoTRD and steezemcqueen. We were also joined by a couple buddies with a lexus and 4runner crawler.

amazing time with some great people! weather gave us a run for our money on a trail like that, but we all made it out in one piece. a few scratches and minor trail damage, but nothing major.

first minor obstacle of the day. wouldn't have been much of an issue if it were dry, but the slick rocks had us taking it easy and watching our wheel spin.

 

then we hit the first major obstacle. the bottom of the slab has been dug out a lot over the years, along with the wet rocks, some trucks had issues getting enough traction to pull themselves over the large ledge at the bottom.

the big rigs needed a bit of extra help due to the conditions

 

next came an obstacle that gave most everyone except dylan, matt and justin a kick in the ass...the base of the ledge was mucky as fuck and we could not get traction for the life of us..

truck almost got up far enough to pull myself up, but the muck at the bottom killed me every attempt

 

on to the creek!

2nd gens didn't take this obstacle. the route taken brought the trucks through a squeeze on an off camber muddy slope that would have ended with bedside damage. so jace, cameron and dylan took the creek on! surprisingly the creek crossing went smoothly for all until the squeeze. jace took a small hit, but luckily was on the flare and had nice bedside protection. cameron squeezed by on his way up, but had some bedside damage on the way back down. dylan took a harder line up, but had to back down and take the left route. he suffered slight damage to his driver rear on the way down, but nothing bad.

Wish I could have made it. Didn't get my truck back together until Sunday. Looks like it was fun.

That looks a lot like some of the damn stuff I crawled over in my '07 Tacoma going over Tin Cup Pass in south central Colorado. Awesome scenery, but damn it was rough with stock suspension.

 

Being from SoCal. Not much of that out there. It all looks Amazing. Props to who took the photos. They really made your rigs look great. Looks like I have a lot of work to hang with the big dogs.

 

Holy cross= one of the coolest trails in Colorado. so much fun and gorgeous views. thanks to everyone takin photos!
