Thanks, hadn't seen that thread. Reminds me of this incident-

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/south-west/164434-tacoma-rollover-mount-princeton-road-06-26-11-a.html

^ I was at the Toyota Jambo that day in the same area. Didn't hear about it til he posted. I hate shelf roads.

Thanks. Twice the price? Ouch. Gotta pay to play I guess.

BTW, I could swear you guys had a video using the pull-pal type device. Couldn't find it though. I suck at the internet.

They're not cheap thats for sure! I'll be honest, I was an absolute skeptic of them before I started working here. I come from more of a racing/desert background as opposed to the overland thing that we are known for. Wil gave me a set to test out one weekend when myself and a few buddies headed out to a big sandy wash run on the Westside of Phoenix. Its inevitable that someone is going to get stuck in the sand at some point and I was the only 4x4 vehicle on this trip and by end of the day I found it was easier to simply pull the MaxTrax out and let them get themselves unstuck than to pull out the strap and tow them out. They really are that awesome!

Used them a bunch at Huckfest this year too to help get out everything from trucks to motorhomes.

Wil has the video somewhere, I cant seem to track it down but I will find it and pass it along.

    I missed that thread... Thanks.

Hamer drill and rebar is a nice trick. I've used a hammer drill to drill holes in concrete for anchor bolts. Worked great!

Not a video but rather a write up comparison between the Pull-Pal and the Smittybuilt knock off version

Pull-pal works great, and is the best winch anchor available. If it hasn't been mentioned yet, you can also bury a spare tire as a winch anchor. Takes some time to dig a hole to fit a spare tire and bury it but it works as long as it's deep enough to not just pull up out of the ground once you start pulling.

I like the old, lift it up on a hi-lift jack and push it over to fall off the jack trick!

    enough to go over stuff
I have these and while they are not maxtracs they have worked great in the sand. I went down to pismo and got dug in twice. Both time I was able to place these under the wheels and drive out. I also let some other stuck motorists use them. Ill keep them on me through the winter and see if I have to use them in the snow and mud.

I've used floor mats, branches, and even cut down a small tree to help get some traction.

That 4 Runner recovery was crazy. Lots of good info
