Lol I hate to say it but that is a failure because they claim it is a TRD pro. Well they used none of the TRD pro parts on it so... Epic failure on Toyotas part.

It starts out as one, and then the amount of mods depends on which class it is running in. A pure stock class to compare would be nice (Tundra TRD Pro vs F-150 Raptor vs ?)... but I think they would break as the trend is to push it faster than the conditions were allow. It will take practice to learn to pace the race to finish and not break. Class 11 and Jeep Speed come to mind.

If it was, do you think we would be going, over and over again?

Mexico is a beautiful country with great people. The issues are drug crime (as they are here in the US), so do not be involved in drug business and avoid sketchy parts of any city (as you should here in the US).

Do bad things happen in Mexico? SURE! Do bad things happen in the US? OF COURSE!

The amount of crime in your own US city probably far exceeds any crime in Mexico you would go to, and crime against American or Canadians in Mexico is far less than in your own countries.

During a huge event like a SCORE Baja race, you are only at risk to possible crime while in a city like Ensenada or La Paz, and only to your property while you are not there. So, don't leave your truck full of equipment on a city street... the SAME way you wouldn't in the US.

I have been camping and traveling in Baja California since I was a kid in the 1960's and have never been the victim of any crime. I feel safer where I camp in Baja than anywhere in the US camping. Thugs don't have 4WDs and go out on remote roads or down beaches looking for people to rob. The fishermen or ranchers you may meet in the back country of Baja are all supper nice.

I have hundreds of photos of my trips to Baja on my web site http://vivabaja.com and there is a forum where Baja people exchange info and trip details, ask questions, etc.: http://forums.bajanomad.com
Many own Tacomas and are members of TW, too.

LOL, why thank you... My parents took me to Baja the first time in 1965, in our new Jeep Wagoneer. We did the drive to the tip the next year (took us 2 weeks), back when it was 800 dirt miles, mostly ungraded two track!

I was blessed to get an early introduction to four wheeling, Baja, beach & desert camping... and Baja is why I developed an interest in history and research and writing guidebooks!

I have to thank both DavidK and J41 for getting me back to Mexico and into Baja racing. I was fortunate enough to be part of the chase team for Toyota. They provided me with a Pre-Production Prototype TRD Pro 4runner to use as a chase truck - a GREAT truck right out of the box. In addition to being up-close and personal on this celebrity filled deal, I was also one of the 4 or 5 people that drove the Race Truck all the way back to Toyota Headquarters. An experience I will never forget. Thank you David and Jose! :)

Oh yeah, that truck tracked as straight as an arrow - even after racing at a Class winning speed for the entire 1275 miles of the Race Course. :)

How great is that! Very cool Paul... thanks for sharing. Did you have any conversations with Ivan? While I know his son well, I have not talked with Ivan Stewart... just the photos of him in Baja I took back in the 70's!

I had many opportunities but have to admit I was a bit star struck. I spent a great deal of time with Tom Morris who was there with him during the glory days. Tom and I had a great time together and he was gracious enough to give me many of the highlights he had while working with Ivan. Ivan was very approachable. Like I say, I was rather star struck. He did autograph a number of things for me and Zoom though. :)
