If you are fighting to drive over sand when it could be as easy as driving on a road, then you are over inflated for sand. The best tires for sand have little to no tread (ie. highway tire to bald). However, since our trucks are also used for non sand four wheeling, we need to make our all terrain or mud terrains work in the sand. The more aggressive the tread or the stiffer the sidewall, then the more air needs to come out.

Rugged Trail T/As, Toyo Open Country ATs, Cooper Discoverer ATRs, Destiny Dakotas all work well at 15 psi.

Cooper Discoverer STT, BFG All Terrain & Mud Terrain T/As, etc. start to work well at 10 psi... because of aggressive tread or 3 ply sidewall (stiff) construction.

Click on my link below for 32 psi to 15 psi in sand photos... It is like night & day. Get a good air pump and gauge, and go have some fun in the sand... like a dune buggy! Too easy with the air out? Then do it in 2WD!

I go out to daytona and new symerna beaches alot, stuck once or twice but usually no issues. the 32x11.5 bfgs are good and wide enough to keep the truck floatin on top the sand.
Really never bother to do it, but yea lowering air pressure helps out quite a bit too.

Like others said. Air down REAL low and be careful! More emphasis on be careful. Don't be ashamed if you get stuck. Ask for help before you get REALLY stuck!

    all right.

That makes some sense. I hope my tires flex if I ever hit the beach...

    sounds good

If his pressure was lowered to 10 psi then he would still be driving.

Please... let's be friends... I am sorry if I missed something that would make my reply useless... my bad...

It is just a forum for us to talk and exchange ideas. We are all Tacoma drivers, and that should be good enough, right?

Have a nice week.. and if you can, get off road!

if you are just driving around on the beach where its semi packed semi loose you'll be cool. i actually perfer 2wd on a surface like that cause its fun to whip your ass end out. but if the sand is loose or turns into hills you deffinatly get stuck. you should be ok but dont try to blaze any trails just follow other people and look at the sand to make sure its solid enough to drive on. remember to air down and remember to air up when you leave.
