I should have clarified. I have an '08 Tacoma SR5, open diff.

It should work for you. I'm replacing mine with ARB and will be selling it in a few weeks if you're interested.

So they are available then? I thought I read in your sig that you had it. Do you have a build thread, or write up about it?

 

They are available, I'll be selling mine in the next few weeks when I upgrade to ARB. I didn't do a writeup, but here are several for toyota Autolocker installs, they're gonna be almost identical to yours:

One piece of advice I didn't follow was only using 6 sided sockets when removing the ring gear from the carrier. I now know that stripping one of those bolt heads is a royal pain in the ass.

im always up for a challenge, so say go to the junkyard, rip out the whole axle for a trd locker, grab the harness and have fun!

 

And both ECU's..

 

Could it really be THAT hard to swap for an E-Locker Axle. Why couldn't you just buy a relay and some wire and run power to the locker and a switch up to the dash? Then you could engage if whenever you wanted (though it would be easier to break it).

wow didnt know that was available but you still have to have the front gear ratio changed in front if you do switch to the toyota e locker from the origional 8.4" rear diff right?

 

I'm not sure that the ratios are different. That's what has to match up though, not the size of the ring gear.

 

So now that it's hypothetically possible, and not difficult. What can one expect to pay for the rear e-locked axle assembly from a wrecker?

 

I've looked and most were $1000+, making it about the same price as going ARB.

Sure, but it might be difficult to sell.

 

so just changing the 3rd not the entire axle assembly would warrant not messing with the front?
