    1st pic: Looks like you put a good size cut in the side of your tire.

    2nd pic: So this is why straight axle is better for crawling. You can see on the front how lifting the rear and tucking the front causes the clearance to be, well, not so much clearance.

    yep, that little cut has been there for about a year. spun my tire against a sharp rock at Rausch Creek, PA.

    There are a number of reasons why a straight axle is more desirable for crawling, but that is one of the lesser reasons. for every negative there is (usually) a positive. little less clearance than a solid axle like this, but when unflexed, given the same sized tires, an IFS vehiclle typically has more ground clearance than a standard solid axle.
    the loss of ground clearance during articulation is also a product of how far over the axle the front end hangs. a good example of this is going forward up the RTI ramp. the rear of the truck is a solid axle, but you can see the rear is almost on the ground. in this case, it comes down to knowing your vehicle and the space it occupies, and then picking the proper line.
