I wouldn't go offroad in a non TRD model until you at least put the TRD bed decals on.

My non TRD 4x4 does just fine on anything I'm willing to attempt. Just get some better tires.

    This was overlooked.

Before lockers came about, do you think people just stayed on paved roads?

I don't know if I've yet to be in a situation where a locker helped me out, but I don't wheel as often as I would like to (or should :D)

But when I have gotten stuck, the locker did not help me out at all.

Moral of the story is this: Don't get stuck and 4WD is plenty.

The SR5 package is about looks, not one thing having to do with looks is added to the TRD Offroad. All the TRD packages include the SR5 package.
The TRD Offroads adds to that Bilstein shocks, heavier progressive springs, wider 16 inch alloys, locking rear differential, white wall offroad tires, VSC+Trac, Hillstart assist, hill decent assist, front tow hook and the power plug in the bed and probably a few other little things I'm not thinking of.

Also the option is about $2,800 (MSRP, if get the deal everyone but a sucker gets then it costs about $1800 or less, thats far cheaper then you could possibly add the same stuff for yourself), not that crazy number you pulled from nowhere.

Also I don't know what you're talking about with the stereo? TRD doesn't add anything having to do with the stereo.

"TRD does not mean 4X4...TRD=rear locker...."

TRD Sport doesn't have a rear locker...

hah you have HEEP. Ive beat all the YJs, TJs, JKs, and XJs that ive gone off roading with.

but yeah to answer your question, youll be fine without TRD. Its just a locker, which is helpful but a real good driver doesnt need one MOST of the time. I have a 1996 4wd, which is before the TRD package existed. Its fine for now.

just lift it a bit for clearance and throw some nice tires on it and youll be ok.

yeah, in a technical, rocky trail scenario, with equal drivers. the rubi can beat.

but so often, a better driver is more important than gizmo's

and my bone stock Jeep beats the shit out of a lot of built taco's. doesnt make the jeep better, just means I've finally learned a few things!

PS. I'm about to double post.

stock for stock. both cost in the mid 20s. not taking in reliability, resale, whatever. just vehicle ability.

    the rubi is better.

Taco's tend to sag or bottom out with less than their advertised load so to fix it Toyota has a suspension tsb, technical service bulletin. For non trd ones you get the trd bilstein shocks and a 4 leaf pack in the rear as opposed to 3. for trd you get a 4 leaf pack.

All this is done underwarranty and is free granted you are under warranty.
