Can a tire of the same size at stock be taller?

I told a coworker that I was going to replace my stock BFG Rugged Trail's 265/70/16 with the same size BFG AT's on the Prerunner, and he said the replacements would make the truck taller because they were taller tires.

I thought same size meant same size. Is he right?

Maybe. If so the difference is minimal. It is base on tread depth. If you check out http://tirerack.com, you can compare the two. It is probably no more than 1/4 inch difference.

Unfortunately, same size is not same size, but like 007 said, the difference shouldn't be a whole lot. The actual size varies from brand to brand and model to model. The websites of the tire maker will also have those measurements if the tire in question is not available at Tirerack.

So the guy at work was hallucinating.

He said the BFG AT of the same size of the stock Rugged Trails of 265/70/16 would raise the vehicle 1 inch!

He must be a descendent of the philosopher Stupidicus.
