Thanks, I was talking to my friend and made the same mistake with Titan/Titus...whatever:p

The swansea route can go out the Backside of cerro and out to hunter racetrack lipincott to saline eureka. That out be a good 2 day that covers good offroading and sightseeing. There are a lot of side trips to go on. Trying to see if it is a group that has not been there and wants to see stuff vs those of us that have seen it and wants to wheel.

My son and I are headed up to Cerro Gordo the 10th/11th/12th. Am I going to be bumping into any of y'all?

Death Valley has many roads noted as closed after last weekends storms. Check their website for details and any other sources before you go.

North Pass Saline Valley road was still closed by Inyo county today, but was easily passable.

The storms did a number on some areas, I drove down a trail through an alluvial fan on Wednesday, the trail was good until the gradient lessened and then disappeared completely in gravel and bouldered wash outs. This became an ordeal of tedious route finding, of backing up, turning around, walking down over and back around to see if I could gain a few hundred forward feet. Very frustrating during high heat. I'd find truck length sections of the old track and then be choosing to crash thru brush or roll over boulders all the while fearing I go down a wash branch and not be able to crawl out a few hundred yards down wash. I did eventually make a turn out of the wash onto the narrow packed boulder track which with relief lead into camp.

Been in a few roads like that, usually in late spring though. I stay away during 100° temps, the thought of repairing the truck(if I had to) in that heat is not good.

x2 I once plugged a tire in triple digit heat in Saline Valley, solo. Got it done, but man, the heat amplifies risk and makes everything much more difficult!

DV has my attention now. I'm going to try to understand and digest what is happening with the road conditions. Andy, that article is from 2013, I was half way thru before I figured it out. :D And from what I understand, this years rains were even more devastating.

A shit ton of trails / roads are really f'ed up right now. I really wish there was a 4x4 pass for folks who are more equipped to deal with rough trail conditions.

Wow, that's crazy. And if El Niño is as mean as predicted, we could see even more damage.

I like your idea of a special pass for those who are more capable and experienced.
