2010 tacoma 2wd help for desert running

hey guys i wanted to trade in my tacoma for an fj cruiser, but im going to keep it after all and get it ready for desert running. except i dont know what i should install first. i know suspension is probably what i should do first. what do you guys recommend. please be specific as i am not to familiar with offroad terms. thanks for you help. so far ive heard long travel is best way to go. and if u got anything for sale let me know. i have 2010 tacoma 6 lug 2WD.

Unfortunately $1500 isn't going to go that far for prerunning in the desert. Just to give you an idea im running a mid travel set up which is a 2.5 coilover and UCA (upper control arm) with new leaf springs and 2.0 rear shocks. For a just this basic midtravel front and rear set up will cost about $2500 to $3000. My set up is a day and night difference from stock but still wont even come close to a long travel set up.

to properly build a truck to blast around in the dez and be able to get you home after, without having broken much of anything, your looking at around $8-10K by the time you have built the front and rear.

i'm about $4k deep and only have my front built. my half ass rear susp does hold my truck back, the front outperforms the rear

check out bajamoon's and knight builds to get an idea of what you want to get yourslef into...

wow so i need to keep on saving then... no need on spending 1500-2000 and have it break down in the desert. going to save for long travel...
