recovery/snatch from trailer ball?

    Bilstein 5100 adjustables, 2 inch top plate spacer, bilstein 5100 rears and 2 inch blocks. Flowmaster super 10 with dual 4 inch tips.
    is it bad to get pulled out/snatched by the trailer ball attached to the tongue of the bumper not to a hitch?

    I have never had problem pulling people out, but not one was ever terribly stuck and did not need to jerked too hard to pull em out. I would have to say it depends on the situation. stuck up to axles in mud (the kind that just blends in with the vehicle and suction comes into play) I would not use trailer ball....i would try to get to the frame or factory pull points but not so stuck vehicles i don't see why not.

    as long as you use a snatch strap and not a towing strap or chain, you will be fine. trailer ball are rated for alot more than the bullshit shackles we all use.
    whoa. i just reread your initial post. i would not attempt to snatch from a bumper mounted ball.

    Probably not the best option but it could work if it's your only option it could work. The bumpers aren't rated for nearly as much weight as a receiver or attaching directly to the frame if you can. It depends on what you're trying to tow from, like it the vehicle is really bogged down in mud or down a steep embankment the bumper hitch probably isn't the best place to tow from.

    ya it would be light stuff. not so much a snatch just more of a pull with a recovery strap. im just worried about that tongue bending out cus of the pressure

    That bumper isn't being held on by the most sturdy attachments to the frame. If all u needed was a small pull I guess it would be okay but if your stuck stuck or have to be pulled up a hill I wouldn't do it

    Never EVER recover or attempt to recover using the trailer ball! I have to dig it up but I recall an article from Bill Burke where he talks about someone being killed.

    Get the Toyota tow package that bolts up or an equivalent bolt on receiver hitch. What ever you do do not try to recover using the ball!!

    Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
    Put the strap on the frame, not the bumper, or pull from the front recovery point with a shackle. A class three hitch would be another good spot, but not a bumper mounted ball. It's not rated for anything over 1000lbs.
