Well after 16 years the time has come. My extremely loyal dog "Lotus" will be put to sleep 2maro morning. His whole life he has been a great dog, everyone that has met him just loved him. He never had a mean bone in his body. He has been on more trips that most people have, even rode on the jet ski. I've had him since he was the size of my hand and has always been a wonderful companion. In the last few months he has started loosing alot of weight and just this last week he hasn't been able to keep anything down. Today I realized that he cannot urinate any longer and seems to be very weak. That was enough for me. I dont want to put him thru medication or test. I just want him to go happily. Hes lived longer than most dogs and up until now been in great health. Its probably been the hardest descision that I've ever had to make especially since he is still fairly moble. But there is still doubt in my mind whether I'm making the right decision and I'll probably ponder it for a while. regardless he will be in much better place where he can eat and run all day. He will be missed!

Dogs are the shit. I still miss mine (passed in 2007, 13 years) and haven't gotten over her sufficiently to get another one yet.

    Let him rest easy.

So sorry to hear the sad news but your are doing the right thing. 16 years is a long life for a dog so he has lived a full and happy life. It will be super tough when he is gone but like you said, he will be in a much better place where he can run and play with other dogs.;) My prayers go out to you and Lotus.

dogs truly can be man's best friend. i have had a few dogs that have been more sincere friends to me than most people. i almost wish i could have turned them into people to have an honest friend. and i have cried more when a couple of my dogs have died more than i did at my own family members' funerals. i really believe that God put dogs on earth to be our companions. i think you made the smartest and right decision.

Reading this post brought back memories of me haveing to put down two of my dogs at the same time!! One bit or swallowed a toad and his eyes where bulging out of his sockets and the other one was so weak because of so many ticks on her. I had a two yr. old and a new born, wife had a c-section and I could not handle the pressure of taking care of the dogs and made the choice, it's been eight years now and I can still see them in my minds eye!! You will never forget that dog!!
It's time to let him rest!!:(

It's clear that many years ago when Lotus chose you as his best friend he made the right choice.

Give him a last scritch behind the ears and no words need to be said, the times you shared will never be forgotten.

    Prayers for you both.

I had a 13 yo old lab that I made a decision to put down, the day before we were to do it, she crawled in the garage to nap one last time and never woke up, it was like she knew the vet was coming. Best wishes to you Neil.

Just a couple of weeks ago I had to put my dog down we had her for 14 years, the hardest day/week of my life, the vet came out to us I didn't want to stress her out even more by dragging her to the vet because she hated car rides like no bodys business. Her collar is hanging on my wall as I type
this and her ashes were spread in a pasture that she would run in since the day I brought her home till about four years ago we would be out there chasing pheasants every day. She was lab/pointer mix named TASHA. I feel for you buddy many prayers for you and LOTUS.

Google search- rainbow bridge, my mom printed it out, framed it and hung it on the wall to.
