I use my Blackjack to get on too often. Most TW time is logged at work. When I get home, I don't get online too often.

Earthlink still has 3,581,000 dialup customers. I'm shocked that so many people are still using dialup.

You can get DSL lite from most providers for the price of dialup.

Interesting number but believeable imo. In many mountainous and/or non-developed areas, the telecommunications infrastructure is either minimal or non-existent. The resident density doesn't support service providers to upgrade facilities. Point to point options are out the window because there is no LOS in some cases. Not to mention, a recent article I read said how there is still a large percentage of people not connect nor using technology at all for whatever reason be it finances, inexperience, or defiance.

Good suggestion on DSL lite for those looking for a cost effective alternative to dial up if available in their area.

Agreed. My parents didn't have access to DSL until a few months ago, and there still isn't cable out where they live (only 5 miles, maybe 3 as the crow flies, from a town with cable, dsl, etc). And satelite is insanely expensive! Last time I checked it was around $800 up front, and $70-$80/month after that.

Here @ work (a major University) we still have a dial-up modem pool. That employees & students can use for free to get on the internet. The whole campus is WIFI/ethernet hard wired. So I really don't see students using it, unless off campus. But what shocked the hell out of me a few weeks ago. A professor (making six figures) calls wanting the number to the modem pool. He said he was configuring his new PC & wanted to get on the internet. Dude! You can afford it, Get D-S-L or highspeed something. I'm suprised we still have the modem pool, they were talking about how expensive the upkeep was & were supposed to get rid of it.
I haven't used the modem pool in nine years. Speed is the key!

    A thing or two...
Qwest DSL for me. I live about 100 ft from the CO, so I actually connect at the speed I pay for. :D
