Mozy Online Backup

Anyone here use Mozy online backup service? www.mozy.com

I just signed up for it and it is taking forever. I started uploading 320 gb last night and it is only 1% done. I hope that it will speed up later on.

I payed $95 for unlimited uploads for 2 years.

There is also a free 2gb backup service.

those are good sites but do not meet my needs. I wanted something that will auto sync my computer and an online backup. Also, I've got 300+ GB that needs to be backed up.

How do you think I feel? I have 1TB that needs backing up. I'm still looking for a solution. No way in hell I'm backing that up online... Upload speeds are too slow. You're probably limited by your ISP, not moxy.

I've been looking into one of these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ard-_-59105382

file redundancy, hot swap sata bays, backs up PCs in the house, can restore via network and boot CD.

Figured I'd get the 500gig version, and move files around to be able to add my 2 250's and 750 gig drive with maybe my 3rd 250 as a usb or eSATA. Then migrate it to 1tb drives as the prices come down. Or just stock it full of 1tb's if the price is low enough by the time I can afford the server.

Sounds like you need EMC corp for a mirror backup.

Once it gets everything backed up initially it should only backup things that have been modified, therefore it will not have to run very often. Getting that initial backup uploaded is painful though...

I've seen those drives. Any idea how many external USB enclosures I've had come into my office in the last month because the drive failed? No. I'm not putting everything on a single drive. Maybe 2 of them, manually mirrored, but not just 1.

Mirrored RAID's are fine, but I'd like RAID5 at least for a little better performance with the redundancy. Also, by the specs for Windows Home Server I could technically lose more than 1 drive and be fine (assuming both copies of each file aren't on the drives that fail). The other thing is, I have 3x250gig and 1x750 drive in use. I might as well keep using those since they're new and work, but all RAID arrays I know of require identical sized drives. Or you'll only be able to use as much as the smallest drive in the array. WHS actually uses software to copy files to 2 drives, with an index (or shadow copy maybe) on 1 drive. If you remove one of the drives the other copy becomes master so you never lose access while a drive is down or being replaced. That also means you can mix and match sizes so I'd be able to reuse what I have until I can buy larger ones. Although, there is some data corruption bug still in the OS from what I hear.

I like the Western Digital MyBook drives (1 TB from WD). They're about equal in cost to buying a drive and an enclosure and the software works well. I set it up on a small server at work. I have an older version that does full backups once a week and incremental backups daily. The newer ones backup on the fly. They're very quiet and sit well on a desk.

hmmmm...what have I succumbed to...

My main pc has mirrored 500 gig hard drives. I've got a slide in backup drive that is 500 gigs that I do whenever I've added important files. I've got an older PC that I'm setting up ubuntu on and I will use that to operate as a in house file server but also as a backup server. I've got assorted drives lying around that have various stages of my data.

My house would have to burn down or flood for me to lose all my pictures, music, videos, software, etc...Hence the offsite storage. I've never lost all my data, and hopefully now, it will be just about impossible.

OH!!! I HATE THOSE THINGS!!!!!!!!!

I have bits and pieces of half a dozen of them sitting in the shop, and another one came in last week! You have to jam a screw driver in 4 different slots and practically break the damn thing to get it open and replace the drive. Which of course voids the warranty if you still have one. But it's necessary if you want to attempt to clone it to recover your data before you ship it back to WD for replacement.
