Why.....

Is everyone I know telling me NOT to get a manual transmission for my new truck?

I've driven manual for years and I like it just fine. It's just funny, almost everyone is like "why not auto? everyone drives auto"

 

why do you listen to them? if you dont want an automatic then dont get one.. the manual is sticky until it gets broke in good.

 

Im not, i'm holding out till i find the manual. it's just like wtf! leave me alone! kinda funny.

speaking of breaking in. is there a way in particular you'd break in the stick and or the engine?

 

haha my parents told me not to get manual cause they wanted to let others in the family drive it as well. i said NO! hahah

 

I drove a standard for over 30 years, When I got my 08 I went with the auto, mainly because I read that it got better mileage than the 6 speed. I've never driven a 6 speed Tacoma, but I've read about people on here not liking them, something about the RPM,s staying high when you engage the clutch. If you want a standard, test drive one and decide if you like the way it feels. I honestly miss driving a standard sometimes, especially in bad weather. The 5 speed auto is a great transmission, shifts smooth as silk. For me, it came down to gas mileage.

 

hahaha another good reason to get one. thin out the heard of people that say "hey, can i borrow your truck>..."

 

Personal opinion. If you want a manual, don't let anyone talk you out of it. I myself would never have one - especially where I live. The amount of traffic lights around here. I'd be forever shifting.

 

i drive a 98 lol i dont know much about the new transmissions but i have read that alot of people didnt like them, i would search for some of the threads on here and go test drive a couple and see how you like them..

 

Yeah I'm gonna get the manual, I've test driven both. I wont let them talk me out of it.

Luckily I work from home so my driving is either long haul and or around town during the day...no traffic

 

only down side is that manuals get less mpg than autos in our trucks.

 

Why is that I wonder? I noticed that when I was shopping.

Im not a car person but I always thought manuals got better mileage.

 

They usually do, but these trucks have a different gear ration in overdrive. My truck runs at about 2000 RPM's at 65 MPH, the standards run at around 2300 RPM's at 65.

 

Did you test drive any of them yet?

I've been driving a manual ever since I could drive. When I test drove the manual tacoma - I absolutely hated it. The RPM's never drop when you push the clutch in and it's annoying. I'ver never driven a manual that did that.

SO GLAD to be back with Toyota...my very first new car was a Tacoma....then I got a silverado...bleh....back to the best!

 

The auto has come a long way, but the MPG estimates are also based on the fact that there just aren't that many people who drive manuals anymore and techniques and driving styles vary. I have the 4 cyl 5spd manual 4X4....and I average between 22 and 23 mpg combined driving.

It's the technique and style.....not necessarily the transmission itself.

WHY is this thread even in existence is my question?! and stop being a whiny mamby pamby and get an auto.

 

i drove a stick for 10 years and planned on getting a manual taco. tehn i drove it and hated it. who cares what anyone else says, just make sure you like the way it drives before you buy it. i personally prefer the 5 spd auto over the 6 speed manual (geared too low for my taste)
