It's not often used. It's used in big time cases, such as in O.J.'s trial. Basically, you are cut off from the world until the trial is complete. You are not allowed to have any influences from the media, so you won't have a biased view of the case. So you basically live for that trial until it is complete. You are assigned a place to live while the court is going on, you are escorted there by law enforcement, you cannot watch any news, read any newspapers, radio, etc, or associate with anyone really so that you don't develop any opinions on the case, other than the pure facts that you are presented with. They do this in these cases to make it more fair and professional. The reason it can suck so bad is because like the mentioned O.J. trial took 134 days. That is basically 134 days where your life is nothing but trial. I'm sure it pays more than $10 though.

Knew that info....just didn't know the correct term .:D

Anyway, you can count me out. I would not participate in such a thing. Four months of my life is way more valuable to me.

I got called last year and I was actually pretty excited to see what it's all about, but I couldn't go because I go to school 90 miles away from the county im registered to vote in. They excused me but I really did want to go.

i was just speaking with a friend about this (who recently got summoned for jury duty for a three week criminal trial). seems like if you are employed you should get your normal wages as if you were working for any days missed due to jury duty. whether from the employer directly, from the government, or a split of some kind. If people were not missing out on their normal income i'm sure it would change a lot of peoples opinions on having to do jury duty. Personally, i'd still enjoy the process and wouldn't bitch about it. (also just received a bachelors in criminal justice, maybe thats got something to do with it)

I have been called 3 times so far, the first two I was in college and got out of it because I wasn't living in the area. The last time I reported and was interested to see what it was all about. Once I got all the details I now have a new take on the matter... It's a bunch of BS! The case was going to be a DUI case and was going to take a minimum of 5 days because the Judge would only allow the trial to go on for 2 hours each morning because she "had other engagements in the afternoon". It was going to be 1 day for opening statements, 1 day for prosecution, 1 day for defense, 1 day for closing and then the verdict. 5 days on a DUI case with no accident, just some dumbass who was caught drunk behind the wheel!! Every juror there has other engagements, it's called our jobs! Maybe it was a poor choice of words on her part, but that crap just pissed me off and turned a neutral opinion to a negative one. I think they should go down the list of people collecting unemployment and choose them first. Just my opinion...

Don't like it!!!!! There are people such as yourself that do, so they should be the one to do it. I make 10 a day....That won't pay the bills.

I hate it, I hate having to go down town, fight traffic, find parking not only that but somewhere safe to park the Taco! Plus its boring as shit! I have to go for work once in a while and I had jury duty once, but didn't get picked. Thank god. I think they should have a pool of people, such as yourself OP who like to do it and want to. I'm sure there are a ton of people who like it and would do it. Only if there is not enough of those people should they then call on the rest. IMO Anyway.

We do a lot of things we don't want to do, doesn't mean we have to like it... I just think it's a highly inefficient system, if they revamped it a little people might not be as reluctant to serve.

Many municipalties have switched to using property tax info for the pool. So, we should quit buying things now?

The last time i got called i was picked for a murder trial that lasted 3 weeks, found it very interesting and emotionally draining.
But it is what it is, get called every 4 or 5 years ,it's inconvienient but not really that big of a deal, part of living in the land of the free and the home of the brave!

    i look forward to it.

it makes a big difference if you have to worry about your pay.

i have been selected every time i have been in the situation that a jury is selected.
the process of getting there is a pain, but the experience and knowledge of the judicial process is great.

    been on...

    civil
    murder
    DWI
federal drug case (not the same as county court)...my favorite so far (2 weeks)

    never been sequestered.

called 3 other times that were canceled or "settled" before jury selection

    edit:
Tarrant county (Fort Worth) has also revamped their pay system as well.
$10 (i think) for first day and $40 each day after.

used to be $6/day no matter what

People who complain about jury duty make me laugh. I sure wouldn't want some whiny bitching person that was only thinking about how much he wasn't getting paid or or some gang of welfare subscribers to be labeled as my peer in a court case. And this whole cry cry cry thing about getting paid (whatever your going wage is per day) complaint. I hope they change that law so you do get paid what your going wage is, then I hope you get found guilty for some lame traffic violation or misdemeanor and have Bill Gates on the jury. Good luck paying that court cost... :jerkoff:
