direct tv hd receiver question...or 3.

alright.....we bought a samsung 40 inch lcd hdtv..........and we just got direct tv on monday. the tv specs are 1080p 60hz. my question is this....with it being a 1080p tv....how the hell do i get the receiver to format the screen and give me the 1080p resolution...how do it get the receiver to do that? right now....all i can get it to go on is 1080i.........if i keep pressing the reso. button....it goes back to the lowest resolution...then i gotta press the button till it gets back. but it stops at 1080i...wont go to 1080p.

can anyone explain?

 

Just because the tv is 1080p doesnt mean your receiving the signal at 1080p.Most broadcasts are not 1080p.You have to find a program that is transmitting 1080p.

I had the same question right after I hooked my DirecTV up also. I learned the same thing you just did. I also learned 1080i looks pretty good.

I don't know what kind of phone you have but if you can download the DirecTV app do it. I use it all the time to record programs when I realize I'm not making it home before the program starts, usually a sports program. You can also record a program from a computer too. The one thing to remember when you record from your phone or computer you don't get the option to record over by X amount of time and we all know sports never end on time. I just record the program immediately following the program I'm recording.
