if you're bored, you have no imagination.

    diatribe of the day:

when I was a boy, we didn't have atari and droids and VHS players and all that crap kids must have today. and don't get me started on 100$ sneakers, either.

so for fun, we would actually "do" things. when there used to be Cub Scouts, no not the little beggars outside the supermarket asking for donations on saturday morning, but Scouts who had handbooks that showed you how to do stuff, we'd actually get together with (can anybody guess?) YES - other Scouts, and go around and scrounge stuff and build things. as i got older, i earned money and bought models and built a train layout. older still - maybe 10 or 11 - i can remember helping my "older" cousin (13 -14) melt lead tire weights in a tin can over a single burner hot plate. after we got it liquid, we'd pour it into a brick mold - we broke the raised letters out of a building brick - and made lead ingots. what the hell ever became of them i don't know, but the point is we never got bored. oh; and hot lead burns like a sumbich.

so i have always been blessed with an imagination and i think kids who have everything "made" for them, as sophisticated as store bought stuff is, are missing out on a lot of fun, and development which can help them later in life.

and the little kids that beg for change outside the market? i never miss an opportunity to tell them that asking for money isn't the same as earning it, and that they should go rake their neighbor's leaves for 50 cents. 'bout that time the "adults' begin to take umbridge and i leave. because the parents of today's children usually don't get it either.....
