Yeah, ppl want you to invest as much time as possible with them, so you are more willing to lower the price when they do finally show up with 1/2 of what you agreed upon. I usually tell them not to waste both of our time and show up with less money.

SOooo this is a good one. I was selling he stock rims and tires of my tacoma. I was selling them seperate to try to get more money. A guy comes to see the tires and hee is super FOB. I can barley understand what he is saying. THe tires are brand new and we end up making a deal at 300 for the tires. We get to the tire shop the next day and they start taking off my tires. The guy rushes over and grabs the rim and tire. Im like dude he needs to take off the tire first. Then he starts freaking out in the middle of the tire shop and thinks he is buying the rims and tires together!!! Im like WTF its clear in my add that im only selling the tires. Everyone at the tires shop is like WTF this guy is crazy. In the end i wasted half my life not selling the tires LOL.

I agree. I would rather have them come to my house at my convenience than meet them someplace. I usually have the items located so they don't have to walk thru my home. By the time we get to that point I have already talked to them a couple of times and have a feel about the person.

 I completely agree. Being single, I don't have a wife and kids to worry about, which would probably change the way I thought. Maybe it's a geographic/culture thing too, I dunno. Where I grew up most people slept with their garage doors open and front doors unlocked. Not smart, but they did it.

But yes, being prepared and ready is the most important thing.

Completely agree on this also. I always move the item to the garage by the time they come.

I have about $10k worth of tools and equipment in my garage so that wouldn't work for me.

LOL it's not like I just tell them to put the money in a can and pick it up at their convenience. I agree that the garage has probably the most valuable things in it at my house, with my tools, bike, Mustang, and other stuff, but at least I can ensure that is all they see.

You're never going to remove all the risk from the transaction. All you can do is minimize it. I'd rather have someone in my garage than my living room.

I had a tool box for sale and this high school/college age kid called wanting it. He never discussed buying it for less than the posted price. So we agree on a meeting place and I pull into the parking lot and see him coming out of a store with a snack and some milk. He looks the tool box over, likes it, then tells me all he has is $250 not the $260 add price. I look at him, look at the tool box, then back at him and say, "Well give me the $250 and the milk, we'll call it even." You should have seen his face LOL. I let him have the tool box for $250 & he kept his milk.

I had something similiar. I was selling a truck cap off a work truck we had bought. The guy was interested and knew I was firm at $150 for the cap. He only brought 20's. I didn't have a cash on me except what was in my ash tray in my truck. I managed to find $10 in change. I dont think he was very happy b/c when he got in the truck he dumped all the change on the floor and slammed the door.

A few years back... my neighbor, a single mom, gets a knock at her door at 7:00AM on a Saturday. The guy at the door says he is here to pick up the boat. She says I don't have a boat. He leaves and comes back with police. He apparently bought a boat on craigslist, paid for it and was here to pick it up. She tells the officer you are welcome to come in and look for a boat. But she highly doubted a 18' bass boat would fit in her townhouse.

Come to find the poor guy drove 6+ hours from NY to pick up his boat. Had her last name and her address as the location. Police officer asked if her ex-husband might have a boat for sale....she replied I doubt it, he's been dead for 6 years!

Sure felt sorry for that guy. We never heard the outcome.

Perhaps wrong, but I often will list made up things on craigslist and put my friends phone number as the contact. I have yet to tell them that its me posting the ads, but its funny as hell listening to them complain about all the phone calls they are getting about people interested in buying everything they own...haha

    Lol awesome.

My buddies would take really "gay" looking pictures of their friends of face book (yea it was a while back) and post the on the casual encounters section under men looking for men. Pretty awesome to hear a bunch of guys screaming at people on the phone having no clue why a bunch of dudes are calling them to hook up. Not to mention the dirty stuff the guys on the other line were saying.

I was selling my old Pirelli tires for 250 and I get a call from a guy in Maryland, like 3.5 hours from where I live. I told him I would drive an hour and meet him just outside DC, on my side and he told me that he would rather meet me at my house. I was a little spooked about that so I told him no thanks, ended up sellin them the next day for 250 and only had to drive 5 minutes to the gas station. I found it odd that someone would rather drive 3.5 hours than 2.5 hours for a set of used tires and not even pay less...

I saw one the other day where they were selling a 2006 Ninja ex250 with 10k miles for $4,000!!!! And that's not the best part...they were willing to trade for a 4x4 truck, year 2005 and up with low mileage, preferably a Tacoma. AND NO LOW BALL OFFERS!
    LMAO!!! People are idiots.

Last week I sold a Chuck Norris Total Gym on CL (lol).
I had bought it at a yard sale this summer brand new for $150 (for my knee rehab).
It wasn't get used anymore since now I can go to the gym at work for free.
Looked on ebay...these things go for over $500-600 and people pay for them.
I could have sold 5 of those things, it was gone in a day for $400 bucks & the lady drove 75 miles to come pick it up. She was so happy. Me too!

It's amazing how far people drive to buy stuff. I had a guy drive to Atlanta from Auburn AL (about a 3 hour drive) to buy a Honda civic engine I had that had rod knock.

The guy that ended up buying my old wheels and tires on friday was actually a pretty cool guy. Wasn't weird at all like some of the people I have encountered. He drove about 70ish miles to get them.
