Bath Salts to get HIGH?

What is hell is this all about?

Heard a story from the local cops here that some chick snorted it and thought she was on fire and stripped down and jumped in the river in 20 degree weather.

They are sayin its the new Meth since sudafed is so hard to get now.

One story from Miss, where a guy got his hunting knife out and cut pieces off his stomach and face and hung them on his clothsline.

Is this a problem everywhere? Who snorts bath salts? WTF?

Research chemicals that have popular in Europe. These " bathsalts" under the names ivory wave and cloud 9, have been around for a while. From what I understand, they have very similar chemical properties to meth-amphetamine but are a molecule off. I've been keeping a close eye on this type of bullshit because I have a son who's in middle school.

Call me a nazi, but I routinely " shakedown" his bed/bathroom for things of this nature.

 

you can ban bath salts all you want, but you wanna know what you can't ban? Stupidity. no matter how much you try, you will never keep a dumbass from doing dumbass shit. you can't ban every chemical that fucks people up when its injected, or smoked or snorted, or there would be no chemicals!

 

Here is why we regulate drugs. This stuff is sold legally and messes people up.
They are trying to pass legislation that would make this stuff illegal or a least better regulated.

I'm a deputy sheriff in Louisiana. These "Bath salts" have been made a Schedule I CDS (felony) here. In just my parish (which you would call a county), with ~180,000ppl, we have had one suicide, two SWAT call outs, two K-9 tracks, and numerous other calls resulting in hospitalization relating to these "bath salts". From what I've seen the people using this stuff aren't using it for long. Whether they kill themselves or just realize the high is just not what they want, they don't use it again. The hallucinations these people are having are causing them to take extremely dangerous actions and it's surprising only one person in this area has died. What's even more surprising is that I haven't seen this stuff since it was outlawed here. Maybe people around here have realized "bath salts" are the way to get their high.

 

Very good thing to do, it let's you know what your kid is up too. Now days there are many things around that kids can get in trouble with all these drugs. Your not being a nazi, your being a parent!!

 

I wish more parents would realize that. You can't be their best friend and expect them to be angels. They may "hate" you for restricting what they do, but it is needed. It amazes me every time I call a parent and tell them their child was breaking the law they are so surprised. When they're not on a leash you can bet they are going to do what they or their friends want to do, and it will likely get them in trouble.

 

what other ways are there? coming from a 18yr old, kids should have no reason to not want there parents in there room trying to find something, sure i dont like it whenever they read through my texts or snoop around but thats only b/c im worried they will find something that will get me in trouble, and if they find it they are doing their job as "parents"

My parents never snooped through my phone or room and I've never done any drugs or drinking. I think the more restriction there is, the more the kid will want to break it. We're teenagers for a reason if you are raised in an open environment then hiding things from your parents shouldn't even be happening in the first place. JMO

 

I'm interested in hearing about these "better ways". Just for future reference...

You get it: Your parents love you and want to protect you.

I think of all the dumbass shit I did when I was your age. Damn lucky I lived through it. And my parents were GOOD parents, but you can't be hovering over your kids all the time.

But if you can keep an eye on them within your scope of control (the home) you can minimize the risk.

x2. My room was never searched, phone was never looked at. I have not gotten in trouble with the law once in my life. I know for sure and have witnessed it myself, if a kid is too restricted and smothered to death, eventually they will rebel and sh!t will roll downhill. I plan on doing this with my kids. If I think they are going in the wrong direction, I will get them back on track, but will also let them learn for themselves. That is how I have grown up.

 

Yeah, I agree with you completely. I was allowed to F-up and pay the price for it. It trains you to make better decisions as an adult.

But if you believed your son or daughter was putting their life at risk that changes the game.

That's where the line gets blurred a little...

 

exactly. I made dumb decisions (never threatened my life) learned from them, made one decision that wasn't too smart.... (could have potentially gotten killed) but my parents kept me from doing it... theres a line between harmless stupid crap and harmful (or potentially harmful) stupid crap.
