Not finished, but ready for use. Great materials from the private yard. Two sheets of A-C grade, true 3/4" plywood for $60, and a spruce 2"x8" that was perfect. The 1" material was from Lowe's, and other than the damn staples all over the edges, it was good, too. Side compartments for the Ziploc containers, and the 5' jack will fit in the center as soon as I trim it a little. The center support structure runs the entire length of the bed, under the crossmembers. The platform is very solid.

That's a lot of !
I still have my 1997 Giant ht iguana. At 600$ it was a lot back then. I couldn't do that now.
Besides,at almost 49,wrecking hurts like a mutha fkr! I already hurt without a ride. Last time I was riding regularly,I was out at about 5am. Had my lights with one on helmet and handlebars. Looked down and locked up sliding sideways due to a big fkn family of coons with the mom acting like she wanted a piece of me. Couldn't get feet out of clips fast enough. Downshifted, shit myself, and pedaled out wjth a fkn dog comes out of nowhere and makes me downshift again . The little fkr almost had my ankle. Didn't stop for about a mile.

LOL. Just kidding, nice job. I really did not understand what you were attempting during several discussion between you and Peter Peckerbeater.

Thanks. I thought about making a sketch, but it was making enough sense in my head.

Lol... Yeah it can be. It's all relative in the end. When I was racing I had a $5500 Merlin and people used to give me shit about it. I was always like..."wait a sec... don't you have a $50000 Ranger Bass Boat that goes 80 MPH?" I quite honestly didn't didn't know fish could swim that fast.

I'll have some tomorrow. The platform still needs some finishing work, but it'll get by for next week. Since I don't have the rear window of a hard shell to support the DAC tent, I have to rig up a pole system to support it. I have a few ideas, but I won't know what I have to work with until I put the topper and tent together.

On my wish list is a bed rack tall enough to have a soft topper under it and use the rack like my headache rack right now hauling lumber and stuff.

How about rigging something up with a set of replacement tent poles and some pins on the tailgate to support the top of the tent?

Keep an eye on Zach at PrInSu Design. His roof racks are very good, and he's been working on bed rack designs. Using T-slot stock for crossmembers and mounting points is the way to go, IMO.

That's why they have plans for strip canoes. You buy strips of lumber as you can afford it.

I've subd to his thread. They look more aerodynamic than a square headache rack or tubular bed rack.
