Cheif, you talking about Rota Spain?
One of my buddys was stationed there on a sub tender. I might have gone there, but I put Holy Loch Scotland on my "dream sheet", he put Rota Spain. We both got our duty stations as requested.
Him being full blooded Portugese may have had something to do with his choice. He had alot of relation in Portugal, and his dad had been a former strongman, (like Charles Atlas), and former heavyweight champion of Portugal.
[Really showing age here; anyone remember "Charles Atlas"?] That's well before Lou and Arnold.

Got to see Rocky Marciano beat Archie Moore In NYC on Sept 21 1955.We were on our way to England for 3 years. The place was so smokey almost could not see the ring. My Dad talked about it the rest of his life as it was the greatest fight he had ever seen. It was Rocky's last fight...Rocky was world champ at the time and Archie put him on the mat early,,,The whole place was standing for 9 rounds till Rocky put Archie on the mat for the count in round 9....I was 6 years old at the time but man was that a fight...

Hi Chief, another diver on this thread...the missus and I go to the Caymans in Sept. for our annual dive vacation. Love the hell outta diving.. Grand daughter(11 years old) and daughter-in-law getting certs in July and going down with us. Scratch diving with a grand kid off the bucket list. Where'd you dive?

Good to be home. Everything was good including the hot air ballooning in Cappadocia. The place looks like Bedrock where the Flintstones lived. Will post more pics when they are all down loaded.

So much to see here in Merica. I think next year may be a Pacific Coast Highway trip, a trip to the Grand Canyon, or back to Yellowstone. Only time and what the son and wife want will tell.

Three years ago we flew into Bozeman and rented a car. Got a free upgrade to a Caddy. Made the trip quite enjoyable considering we put close to 2K miles on the Caddy.

You will like the Wild Bill Cody Museum. The firearms are most impressive.

The travel through the Badlands and Black Hills was very scenic and worthwhile. Try to take in Mt. Rushmore if you can.

Sept or Oct Before the snow starts to fly but after school is back in so fewer peeps everywhere,, Just the Silverbacks out & about.. Thats the trip we want to take and yes it will be something big no cracker box rides, Caddy or Burb is good. My pal from Cal just moved to Douglas, Wy.. So might stop in to see him.. Born and raised in LA but he said he got a gut full and it was time to go. Only peeps around him now are 5 mi. down the road & the only Dr. is a hr. away. But he says he likes it that way..

The family and I took 6 weeks (3 weeks in '80 and 3 weeks in '81) vacation back in '80/'81 and went cross country. This trip made Chevy Chase's summer vacation movie seem mild. We lost our pop-up camper due to a hit and run 3 days into our trip in Chicago, soooo we had freezing temps where we had to stop driving to get warm while traveling thru Iowa & Nebraska, 70 degrees in Colorado springs in the morning and a blizzard in the afternoon, A rare southern Nevada earthquake and snow in Vegas, mudslides from rain in San Fran, rain in southern California (LA), Santa Ana winds in San Diego, almost ran out of gas in Texas, freezing rain in New Orleans, Icy roads in Shrevesport LA. and oops forgot we could only visit the southern rim of Grand Canyon because all other parts of the park were closed due to weather. Once we can't travel abroad, (when we retire) then we will go back to traveling the States. Europe is expensive, but the wife does her home work and as she says, "I want the biggest bang for my buck". She generally gets some good deals. One thing I always enjoy whether in Europe or home is a good cold one... and a pizza

Morning all:
AHHH; memories!
Sounds like something that would happen to me; a vacation where everything goes wrong. At least you got most of the vacation gremlins out of the way on that one.
