Good morning everyone!! Looks like lots of stuff has been going on since I dropped in last time.

Did I mention that I HATE spiders???!! Luckily, we are outside of the areas where Brown Recluse spiders are found!!

It's been a busy summer, so far....and way too fast. We are 3 weeks away from the start of the fall semester and it just seems like we had commencement.

Lynn and I have both been busy with work but had two weeks where we had lots of family visit our home. It was hectic but fun - in those two weeks my sister, her husband, her son, two grandsons, our son and grandson, his fiancé and her twin 5 years olds and Lynn's youngest sister, her husband and their two girls were here with us. What a zoo!! :)

Between all the visitors, it's been a marathon of grass cutting and building a new area of raised-bed garden for Lynn. We moved in the last two loads of gravel for the walkway gardens and for around the fence line this past weekend - project complete.

I've been nursing an old riding mower along this season - a 1999 White from back when they were built tough. The steering bushings are about worn out and no replacements exist. This weekend the carburetor began to act up and now the tractor stalls on an incline. A rebuild will cost $300 or so....and I'll still have a tractor with bad steering bushings and a mower deck that sways from being so worn. Time for some new technology!!

At this point, I'm spending 5 to 6 hours a week cutting our property. I need to cut that down so I have some time to do other things....like relax! So, I'm going with one of the new Zero Turn mowers. After researching them, I'm getting a Husqvarna M-ZT 61 - 30Hp engine with a 61"cutting deck. With a forward speed of 10mph, that should cut my time significantly. Hopefully, the dealer will have it here by the weekend.

While my son was here, we picked up project restoration rifles to work on. They are both 1876British Martini Henry MkII rifles. These rifles were used during the Zulu Wars and in Afghanistan, India and Nepal. They were eventually transferred to the Nepalese Army and, when retired, coated with Yak grease, stacked on pallets and placed in storage in an old palace. About 5 years ago, they were sold to a US company that imported them and now sells them. They shoot a .577/.450 round with a 480 grain bullet - a true shoulder buster. After weeks of cleaning grease, dust, rust and wood rot, mine is finally finished. I'm in the process of getting the reloading materials I need and will put a few rounds through her eventually. Here are some before/after pictures.

Morning all...sure am glad you and the missus didn't get bit Jim:eek: .Nasty looking spider. Untreated, the bite can cause a lot of problems.

    Hi Sue:wave:

Saw on the news this morning a story about a guy shooting up a township meeting killing 3 people. That was up in Carl's neck of the woods:eek:.

    Have a good Tuesday all:D

Yup; not that far away. There's a flea market out there that I've gone to quite a bit. Looks like they pushed him a little too hard and he flipped out!

    HEY!!! Marks back.
I've also been thinking about a zero turn for the next mower.
I think I'd tie that gun to a tree, and use a LONG string to fire it the first time! :D

You did a fine job cleaning the rifle up Mark. The before pics made it look like a total mess...looks great now. Agree with Carl on tying it to a tree and pulling the trigger with a string for the first shot. Sounds like you missed a good portion of the summer. I am wondering where it went myself......take care and stop in more often.

When I test fire that old war horse it will be on a sled with a string. It should be fine, though. The Brits made them to last and the rust looked way worse that it really is.

I hope to have the new mower by Friday and give it a spin.....literally!!
