OK I have a question for you 50+ers. I know some of you are thinking about retirement, what have you planned, are you gonna keep working at a 'keep busy job' or just get in the truck and go fishing?

I dont know if I will ever stop working, but I am looking forward to semi-retierment, which might still be 12 years out, it would give me 35 years with the company, a nice pension+SS and that WalMart greeter job I have had my eye on.

lol not serious about the Wal mart job.

The company I am working for is trying to get rid of us over paid old farts, so staying isnt going to happen and the lure of less stress is too good. I would rather find that nice part time job helping some organization that is happy to have you there.

A place for us old bastards... I'm with you ag. I was working with this company before John Lennon was killed. On the up side, they treat me like shit everyday:rolleyes:. Good luck to these big companies. The new working generations follow the money and could give a shit about loyalty. Oh and if you think they work for nothing, no you're gonna start them at three quarters of what it took me thirty years to achieve. You kids get off my lawn!!! Jesus I'm an old man on a rant!!!

I was in the same boat and it has sailed. I waited for them to terminate me so I could receive the termination bennies.

My paychecks stopped this month and I turned 62. I filed for SS and unemployment, both were approved. I am bringing home about $500 less than when I was working so I am lovin life and getting projects completed around the home.

I will need to have some sort of part time job next fall, 2012, and I would rather be doing something useful with a company that appriciates what I can offer.

Hi fellow oldsters, retired from my first job after 30 years in 2002, after 6 days at home all day, I must have gotten on the wifes nerves by telling her "Everyday is Saturday" cause after 6 days she told me if I didn't get a job she was going to kill me:eek:!! Found a great job 2.5 miles from home- been there 8 years and 2 more to go till full retirement. Semi-retired for another 3 months (practicing for full retirement) after my rotator cuff surgery. Enjoying the time off:cheers:!!

I am happy doing my job and will stay as long as I can but I know the trend in the corporate world now is not to award loyalty. it just means higher salary to these corporate heads. They want young people that will work long hours for little pay, and then leave for greener pastures. Meanwhile the CEO will get a $10 million bonus for getting the stock 2 cents higher by laying off 100 people.

Man I need a nap after that rant.

    Pretty much true now days.

I find that it is more about the operating budget of the company in the last 5 years rather than the stock price itself.

I am glad that I no longer receive 250+ emails a day.
