Catholics must have incorrectly identified some books as inspired by god that the Hebrews didn't.

Then to show that they really didn't like the Catholics, Protestants said "we would rather agree with the Jews on this" and eliminated what was once God's own words.

Not clear why multiple times on this thread presumably non-catholics making the claims that the catholics got rid of a bunch of books?

Good job. I came into this thread assuming folks generally understood this. But clearly, when you assume...

And this helps illuminate why, when you impose your beliefs on another culture with different creation myths, you build your places of worship on top of theirs, and then integrate their mythos characters into your religion by making them saints, or other convenient minor second- or third-tier characters of no consequence. And brainwash them and take their wealth. Don't forget that part. It's very important.

"The best part about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it."

Evolution is a theory as much as gravity is a theory, and I don't see any of you jumping off buildings. A lot can happen in 4 billion years, such as humans rising from single celled organisms.

I really can't grasp the thought that my short life on this planet leads to an eternity of anything.

Doing a little more research on what some creationists believe on the explanation of the Arc and how all the animals fit.

Seems like it relies on a much faster evolution to get all the different species that exist now. They didn't need every species just a few examples from each family. Load in a few kinds of cat family, then sometime within the 4000 years since the flood every known cat species came to be. Same with say oxen, which evolved into many kinds of bison, water buffalo, cattle etc.

Except that evolutionary time frames simply would allow the needed changes to happen that fast. Obviously since it took millions of years in reality.

Can you show me that first hand experience, or is it all just in your head?

You do realize the bernoulli principle was first a theory that had to be tested. You also realize gravity is a theory, not a prinicple. If we want to keep it within the tw mindset look at the evolution of the internal combustion engine over the post century. If you don't think evolution in animals doesn exist explain how animals in the deep oceans don't need eyes to live while animals in the shallow waters rely on them.

I was wondering when the "have you experienced evolution?" Argument would enter the game

At least we left the 'well you have not read the bible, so you don't know' argument.

So you only believe in mechanical principles, and not biological ones?

You've never experienced evolution? Have you ever experienced geology? Have you ever watched a mountain grow?

The Bible was written by men, saying what they think happened.
God Himself didn't write it, so who was there to see this all happen?

It does, but those are extraordinarily rapid geolgic processes. Perhaps I should have asked if you have seen the entire Hawaiian island chain emerge from the ocean. Or have you watched radiolerian chert being formed? Or watched a glacier fill a valley and then recede over 10,000 years, changing the entire shape of the valley? That's a pretty rapid process, geologically speaking.

    Only time will tell.

    It's a relatively new theory.

In 100,00 years they will look back and laugh that we though evolution was a "theory".

As for me, there is more substantiated proof for evolution than creationism and I am a man of proof. Yay empiricism.

I'm also agnostic (borderline atheist) if that helps at all.
