So yesterday I decided to throw my old pit out. It was rusted pretty good and the cast iron grill broke in half. I put it near my garbage can. Last night I heard some doors open/close, but paid no mind to it. This morning I walked to my truck and noticed someone took the pit. No big deal. What the assholes did was dumped all the ashes on my property. Decent sized mound.

Now, I have security cameras on my property and intend on looking at the feed for lunch. If it is someone in the neighborhood, what should I do? *See poll.

I don't intend on letting it go

Rake the ashes out they are good for the soil and tell them off.

those people are probably not from your area, people drive around on trash night looking for recyclable items such as metal. Knowing this, I probably wouldn't have thrown it out filled with bullshit in the first place knowing it could end up dumped.

Sometimes we have to remember we dont live in an ideal world. Sure, ideally you wouldn't have a mess on your hands but how often is that going to happen?

I choose option, none of the above. Clean up the mess and move on, becoming a paranoid insanity factory over some ashes isnt the correct way to go about things.

you should let it go and move on bro. no reason to live your life so paranoid. what if the garbage collection guys had done the same thing the next morning when they picked it up and accidentally spilled some ashes. you prob should have cleaned it anyway and i doubt anyone said "hey lets dump the ashes out and then carry away this heavy peice of crap to mess with him"

I'd go talk to them about it. Just be like "Why would you do that?" "Please don't do it again." Just a nice chew out. The rake the ashes around your yard and watch the grass grow, ashes are a great fertilizer.

I voted for that, but I think you should do what brunes said, then still give them the burning surprise minus the ashes.

This happens all the time on Fort Bragg, you see truck loaded with shit pulling a trailer full of crap that they pick up and sell right back to the soldiers... I choose to donate all of our unused items to the Airman's Attic which in turn is given back to other for free. Granted it's not "stealing" but still kind of pisses me off.

Rake the ashes out and forget about it.

Rake it out and don't get so wound up about it! Do you get mad at the garbage man for "stealing" your garbage? the person took what you were throwing in the garbage in the first place...no biggie! As long as its picked up I don't think it should matter where it goes. Sucks that they made a mess but you left the ashes in there in the first place.
