having a joint account just complicates things

my brother has a method i might take in.. its who ever makes the most of course pays the most expensive bills like the house and etc.(his separate account) then my sis has her own money and which is paying the smaller bills like cells n etc.(her separate account).they each put money into a third account to which that goes to their kids.so if they want to take them out to the zoo or whatever then they have that third account that way no one is taking away money from the kids. each have there own accounts with there own money and save there own way so that if they want something they like they use there own cash.neither of them ask each other for money.
