    neglect, mostly.
    i would consider you "opinionated"

but to retaliate to a degree - youre just stereotyping the smokeless user the same way you don't like to be stereotyped as a smoker im sure. i dip, but you wouldn't know it. i don't have a "skoal ring" in my clothes, i never leave spit bottles laying around, ive never spit in trash cans, and my wallet has a fresh supply of toothpicks at all times that i use after every dip. my dentist hasn't seen a receding gum line after 5 years of habitual use and said to rinse my mouth out after every dip and brush regulatory to prevent it. i have a damn good looking set of teeth and gums.

however, is is bad for me? oh yeah i know that, im not trying to say its not a bad thing, but where do you really get off with that explosion when you yourself smoke? im just putting up a "defense" to your outbreak of . . . . whatever that was.

and to conclude this thread jack by getting back on topic. OP, because it used to be cool.

Like everyone else, I started in HS because all my buddies smoked. It became a habit that I tried several times to stop, even quit for one year when I was 23. I finally beat the cig around 29 or so, haven't smoked a for few years now. But I could start up again tomorrow, I just choose not to. Plus those little ciggies are some damn expensive.

I started smoking when I was 14, smoked for 34 years, no Intention to stop, i really enjoyed smoking, then 3 years ago I lost my father to cancer, and the following year my mother past way of cancer, both smokers. I quit cold turkey. I could go outside and have a smoke right now, I really Miss it, it was my partner for 34 years, in lonely and cold nights, there it was. I come from a culture of smokers, smoking was part of the social life, when I Came to the states I found out that it was the other way around, I was an outcast, this helped to quit ( I guess).

My uncle just quit about 6 months ago, he went to one session with a hypnotist and was immediately done. He says he has never even had the urge or anything. This guys is a former alcoholic and works in a treatment setting, I think it speaks to the hypnotist.

Congrats to all those who have quit. Look into hypnosis if you want to quit.

I have never smoked/chewed any tobacco in my life. I am 31. I have, and do, smoke other plants a few times a year.

Started smoking when I was 16. Started heavily smoking when I was 17.

By 18 I was up to 2 packs a day, didn't help that I worked in an environment where you could literally smoke nonstop all day.

By 19 I realized how burnt and slow I felt compared to before. Went out drinking (yes I know underage) with some buddies and told them I was going to quit cold turkey, boy was that first night difficult. Smoking and drinking was the thing to do, and everyone around me could care less if they smoked right in front of me. Not that they should worry about smoking in front of me anyways.

Haven't had a cigarette in 1 year now. Sad thing is I feel a lot worse than I did before (other reasons), but I am very glad I quit. It has not been easy, but I do not intend on letting myself pick up another stogie, period.

Im in the same boat as you here. I am a dipper. I dip about a can a week. I only spit in bottles unless im driving down a back road then its out the window. I toss the bottles when I am done with them. I do have skoal rings on the back of most of my jeans though.

I don't know what kind of dippers you have met but I and everyone I dip with do not criticize smokers. Hell some of them smoke as well. It is just another use of tobacco and as long as you arent bothering anyone else with it there is no need to criticize or whine about it.

Oh, and i have tried smoking but i hated it and it made me feel terrible so i just stick to smokeless. but i got started with smokeless pretty much the same way everyone here did. friends were doin it and it was a social thing and now i enjoy it
